yay IPAs in cans. Thanks to AdamR46 (reddit) for this one.

Can forces a big head pour of about 1.5 fingers, creamy semi thick head that fades at a med to slower pace, nice lacing too, super hazy murky darkish mahogany chestnut color.

Nose brings plenty of hops, citrus, orange peel, little earthy and spicy, some generic fruit, hint tangerine like, and into sweet malts, lots of candy sweet malts, caramel, etc, and mild candied orange peel.

Taste starts with more sweet candy malts, toffee, caramel, chewy malts with reddish candy and little syrupy. Then hops, some pine and little resin, earthy spicy and chewy, with a little citrus and orange peel, more generic fruit as well, hint herbal hops with a touch of mint and peppery notes. Mild warming booze too. Finish is drier but still sticky and mild syrupy, more warming slight tingly booze, and mild citrus, more earthy spicy hops, chewy like hops and a little herbal pine lingering.

Mouth is med to fuller bod, some warming booze, little syrupy, decent carb,

Overall not bad, but nothing too crazy, typical DIPA with some citrus earthy spicy mild piney resinous like hops, big sweet malts, pretty good but nothing too special.

Praying this was an old can, because it was utterly undrinkable, pure booze and malt, not a shred of hops (nor even palatable malt sweetness) to reign it all in. Of course, the off apple notes, etc. tell me it probably wasn't an age issue. At any rate, If you're going to push a DIPA to 9.5%, for the love of Pete, make sure you do it well, lest it end up like this.

Poured from a 1L growler filled at the Whole Foods on Montrose.

The beer pours a dark orange-amber color with a large off-white head. The aroma is very powerful, with a nice mix of resinous hops, orange notes and some biscuit malt. There is also a little bit of alcohol in the aroma, not letting you forget the beer is nearly 10 percent.

The flavor is heavy on the hops. I get quite a bit of bitterness, as well as some nice orange and resin notes from the West Coast hops. Once again, there is some biscuit malt and a little bit of alcohol in the flavor, which gets more prominent as the beer warms. The beer is extremely to drink and quite enjoyable.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Texas definitely has some fine breweries, but Karbach ain't one of 'em (that is, if their other beers are similar to this one). It didn't taste hoppy how I expected it, and it tasted more sweet, like malt liquor. But for what it cost me, I could've picked up a gallon of malt liquor.

This beer isn't horrible, but it's NOT one I will be buying again.
