Late one stormy night at the brewery the lights went off and things got interesting. Ask a brewer and they'll swear up and down it was El Hopadillo Negro himself. Like his kin, El Hopadillo Negro craves bitterness, but has a bit of a dark streak. Suddenly...noises in the malt room, thuds in the hop cooler. The next morning it was bubbling away. Dark as night and laden with American hops, this brew has the tropical fruit and citrus flavors of an IPA with a rich, malty body. Don't be afraid of the dark...

A fluffy and rambunctious tan froth breaks away slowly.
Smells thick with oily hops as well as more subtle dark fruits and grain.
Medium in body with a lingering bitterness from the front-forward oily and earthy hops. up Has a toasty malt backbone and even a little plum in for a nice finish. Viscous and almost gummy at times, but never heavy.
Very satisfying.

From undated bomber into tulip. I assume it's fairly fresh since it's made nearby.
L- pours a dark brown to black color, about 3 fingers of very light brown/ very dark white color head, decent lacing
A- tons of hoppy bitterness. Couldn't detect much malt notes. Not quite the double IPAs I like
T- again lots of, but not overpowering bitterness with a hint of coffee malt finish.
M- creamy mouth feel, bitterness coats the palate to quickly dry it out and leaves you wanting another sip. Good carbonation
O- I'd have to say I'm impressed. It seems very well balanced. I'm not a fan of black IPAs but this is by far the best one I've had. I opened this bottle thinking I was going to hate it, but I was wrong.
