Pouring to a nice mahogany color, Krunkin Pumpkin emits a nose of spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, and of course pumpkin. The foam on this beer looks good but it holds its own for only a few minutes after pouring, leaving no lace on your glass.
This seasonal brew has a complex taste of pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, and other spices, plus the finish of alcohol. The bready malts help to balance out the taste, but the mixture of spices continues to get your palate’s attention. There are also some other flavors present if you search for them, like prunes and a touch of vanilla.
Krunkin Pumpkin is a complex beer for certain and the more I tasted it, the more different flavors I noticed. It’s easy to tell that this is a pumpkin beer, but the pumpkin is actually not as predominate as it is in other pumpkin brews. It takes front stage, but it has a great and strong supporting cast from the other spices.
If you like your pumpkin beer to taste like pumpkin pie and nothing else, then you may not prefer Krunkin Pumpkin. But if you love a complex spicy brew, then this is one not to miss. It’s a little pricey, but it’s a good choice for those who love a complex beer and like to pick out all of the different and delicious flavors.

22 oz. bomber poured into nonic
(lots of stuff printed on bottom of bottle, but hard to read)
L: mahogany -- deep dark amber/brown, no old-ale purple but very dark with loads of red in it; 1- to 1 1/2-inch head of thick brown/tan head that sticks hard and appears to be lacing; the liquid is about 95% clear ... it's not cloudy and you can see through it, but it has a slight mistiness to it; no lace as it turns out, but it does keep a nice collar
S: sweet pumpkin, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon ... christmasy; a hint of grain; a sweet malt I can't place -- not bready, nutty or dark (coffee, chocolate, prune, raisin) but close enough to those notes that it definitely is malted barley; fruity; smells sweeter than it tastes
T: loads of pumpkin for sure, has that numbing/mediciny note that tastes more like pumpkin rind than pumpkin pie; it has a taste note i've only encountered in scottish ales (wee heavies) that's really hard for me to describe ... it's almost like beef liver ... prunes? pumpkin permeates everything
F: quite solid ... a good midweight feel with plenty of carbonation
O: better than other pumpkin ales I've tried, but it's not a showcase brew for me. no offense to the pumpkin ale, but it's not my jams. with that said, Karbach made another good beer here, and it's super drinkable. worth a bomber's investment at least.
