Once more, the mighty JenRay has come through with some new CANs in furtherance of The CANQuest (TM)! I am looking forward to meeting her in-person in a couple of weeks.

From the CAN: "Brewed in Texas"; "Proudly Brewed in Texas"; "Recycle Dammit!"; "checkin' boxes ..."; "To do: - Hit the trail ... [check] Yard Work [struck through] next week Get Wet ... [check] Catch the game ... [check] Chill & grill ... [check] ... Have a Cold One!"

The loud Crack! was followed quickly by an inverted Glug and the pseudo-cascade resulted in just over two fingers of dense, tawny head with great retention. Color was about as perfect an amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) as I have ever seen and with NE-quality clarity, to boot! Nose had a citrusy, grapefruit scent and my mouth was watering. Mouthfeel was medium and the taste did not quite live up to my expectations. It seemed a little muted as compared to the intensity of the nose. That said, it was a pleasant enough APA and given my self-abuse with Cigar City AIPAs recently, I am not complaining. I guess that the bottom line is that it would be worth a try, but not worth actively seeking out. (1,138 characters)

I think Karbach makes several good beers. Hopadillo is a fine IPA and Rodeo Clown is an excellent DIPA. But there are so many great beers in those categories. Where Karbach hit the home run was with Weekend Warrior. I just don't see how an APA could be much better. I think a lot of breweries get overly enamored of their specialty malts. Too much biscuit-type malt or caramel malt mutes the glorious high notes of dry-hopped APAs everywhere you look. Not this one. The hops aroma and taste shine through like a beacon in the night (feel free to substitute your own trite cliche'). Wonderful citrus and faintly pine-y flavors in a perfectly balanced beer. Stone is great but too much bittering hops compared to aroma hops, in my opinion. Sierra Nevada, Mirror Pond, Dale's....can't hold a candle. How these beers can have a higher rating than WW on BA is a mystery to me. Zombie Dust is the only equal that I have tasted. (933 characters)
