From the 12 fl. oz., bottle. Sampled on February 7, 2014.
The pour is a very dark brown and just about black with a lingering off-white head. Looks like a craft beer,
The aroma is pretty straight forward. Lots on sweetness.
DaRK BRWN POR UINTO NTHJ GLASS.
The pour is quite nice with its dark brown to near black color. Lingering off-white head. Really fresh aroma with an good fruit hop character as well as a clean malt note. Licorice. The body is medium. The taste has a kind of malted licorice thing going on but generally smooth.,

I'll admit, this was only a 4 oz. sampling at Mews Tavern in RI but I'll give it review anyway.
It was dark as advertised and I really couldn't get a sense of the head. It hid the 8% ABV pretty well and was well balanced between the 85 IBUs and the malts. The only thing that holds this brew back for me is the mouth fell. I thought it was a bit on the thin side for my taste but I'm sure some others will be fine with it.
Definitely worth a try.

On-tap 1/10/2012 at Track 84 in Warwick, RI, served in a tulip glass.
A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a large beige head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains floral hops, citrus, roasted malts and some chocolate.
T: The taste starts out with a strong but not over-powering hops bitterness followed by flavors of dark chocolate and citrus. The malt character is hearty and provides a good balance. The after-taste is bitter-sweet.
M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry but slightly sticky.
O: Very tasty, goes down quite easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is an excellent beer to drink for a long time.

Poured from a bottle into a shaker pint, the beer is a very dark brown coloring with slight ruby highlights around the edges and a frothy, small bubbled, thin head coating the surface. Aromas of roast and chocolate, with resiny and bitter hops presence to balance out the nose. Very rich smells. Flavors are bitter and resiny on the forward tongue, with a darkly roasted backbone of coffee and bittersweet chocolate. The palate is a bit off balance, with bitterness at the beginning and end overpowering. The body is light, and the carbonation makes it effervescent, and almost sharp. Bitter roast and hoppy aftertaste, with a dry, almost astringent finish. Roasty linger left behind. This one was promising, but it came off the rails a bit at the end.
