American Black Ale |  8.00% ABV

Notes/Commercial Description:
This Cascadian Dark Ale, otherwise know as our Double Black IPA, emerged stylistically from the Pacific North West. It has an IPA backbone with a "special blend" of choice roasted malts combined with a hard hitting matchup of hops, knocking this beer into a new weight class. Dry hopped and unfiltered for maximum flavor and punch. Enjoy it with a trainer!

A: Dark brown like slightly weak coffee; creamy, tan head- almost like it was a nitro pour; slowly dissipated, leaving a ring around the edges; some lacing;

S: My first sense was stale coffee or coffee grounds. As it warmed, I got more dark chocolate.

T: Bittersweet chocolate up front; then coffee, leading to a moderately bitter finish; the roasted malts really come through

M: a little thin for a double, IMHO. Hides the ABV very well. Moderate carbonation.

O: An enjoyable beer, but not special.

Sampled from a 12oz bottle with a date area but nothing notched out.

Black with some light coming through on the edges. A very big beige head (maybe too big). Initially nice hoppy aromas that fade fast leaving some malts to shine through. Nice hop flavors with a mild bitterness and a hint of malt roastiness. Smooth and silky with a moderate carbonation.

A very nice RI beer!

From the 12 fl. oz., bottle. Sampled on February 7, 2014.

The pour is a very dark brown and just about black with a lingering off-white head. Looks like a craft beer,

The aroma is pretty straight forward. Lots on sweetness.

Moderate body

DaRK BRWN POR UINTO NTHJ GLASS.

The pour is quite nice with its dark brown to near black color. Lingering off-white head. Really fresh aroma with an good fruit hop character as well as a clean malt note. Licorice. The body is medium. The taste has a kind of malted licorice thing going on but generally smooth.,

Had this up on broadway served with an oven roasted pork dish and it was outstanding. I'm typically a straight-up IPA consumer, but this sat really well with me. I especially enjoy the smooth finish on the back. Must try on tap!

I know it's a black, but since I'm a hop-nut I would have liked a tad more bitterness in the after taste. But, overall a very pleasant dinner brew.
