Popped in on a Wednesday afternoon on my way down to Camden for a concert. As you walk from the parking lot to the entrance, there is a small outdoor seating area that looked really nice. I took a seat inside at the large U-shaped bar and was immediately greeted by the bartender, who was very friendly, talkative, and attentive the entire time. Lots of TVs inside showing the Phillies game. There is a broad range of German beer on tap, with some additional handles for American craft and AALs. Enjoyed a Hofbrau Munchner Sommer Kellerbier and a Weihenstephaner Original Lager, both served in 0.5 L mugs. The Weihenstephaner was served in its own branded glassware that looked very retro. Both beers tasted fresh and spot on. The bartender told me that on Wednesdays they have a $2.00 special on their German Meatballs, so I ordered a small plate of that. Served with spatzle and gravy, they were delicious! I would have stayed longer, but had to hit the road. A great place with a friendly German feel that I will hopefully return to soon.

So I found this place because I researched German places near where I live. It's really not a bad place to go. It's definitely a PA local yokel place with a German theme. They had the usual suspects on tap...Spaten, Franziskaner, Paulaner etc. The other beers were predictable too with the usual Hoegarden, Stella, Guiness etc. When it comes to food, past appetizers, its fairly German. You can find schnitzel and wurst with potato salad and spaetzle. I'm not sure the preparations of these dishes are truly authentic however, but nonetheless they are warm and tasty. I like to consider this kind of cuisine everyone's grandma's interpretation of what their ancestors brought to our country. The servers are always friendly and they offer something for everyone. I tend to rate places like this based on their beer selection and cultural food authenticity, so I don't rate this place very high. However, if you are in the area and don't want a burger or Coors, Miller, Bud, check this place out for sure.

Newportville Inn

Drove here on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30.
Easy to find about 3 miles around the corner from the Hulmeville Inn. Parked in the Liquor store lot and walked in the Inn. Big Foyer with seats and tables to hang out and drink. Beautiful gold leaf covered bar and german beer tap towers. Place was mostly empty with 2 others sitting at the bar and a family of 5 walking in to eat. The bartender was very friendly and talkative. She gave me a bowl of pretzels and their homemade?! mustard was delicious. I drank a Warsteiner Dunkel from tap.
Also on tap were;
Abbaye de Leffe Blonde
Bavarian Barbarian Weldspatter IPA
Brooklyn Backbreaker
Riverhorse Oatmeal Stout
Stoudt's Winter Ale
Radeberger Pilsner
Hoegaarden White
Warsteiner Pilsner
Hacker Pschorr Weisse
Beamish Irish Stout
Smithwicks Ale
Stella Artois
Budweiser
Yuengling Lager
Coors Light

Didn't eat but the menu was traditional German cuisine. Sounded good. All in all I'll go back. Comfortable place to hang out and drink. Growlers are $20 and $12 for refills.

An exceptional place I must say. When you first walk in there are benches with a popcorn machine by the entrance. The bar is to your right and the dining area is in the back that stretches the length of the building. There is also an upstair's but we did not venture to go up there.

Awesome german food I had the farmer's choice which included bratwurst, mockwurst, bockwurst, red cabbage, potato's and saurkraut. My wife had the broiled seafood platter. She say's it was amazing.

Our waitress was very nice and helpful and even stayed patient when we did not know what to order fast enough.

My beef was with beers on tap they say 18 teen beers on tap at all times. The only problem is there only seems to be nine but double if you catch my drift.Mostly of the regular's as well. Bud,Coors, etc.

I think this is a very inexpensive place I had a massive amount of food that will probably last me another day or two for under $20.

Simply an awesome place and we will definetly be there again. Also great to find a place so close to home like this.

A: Very cool (being from a German background). I can really appreciate the atmosphere here.

Q: Very clean and open inside. The bar was a little too small, but the restaurant was very big.

Ser: Not bad, but not great. They all were quite friendly though.

Sel: They didn't have much of a selection w/ both draft and bottles. Their hook is the amount of beers they have on tap, but honestly was very disappointed. (Lots of macro's!)

F: Again being German, the food was delicious. I had the saurbraten and it was perfect.

V: A bit too pricey, probably won't be back.
