From a 650 ml bottle to a pint glass

A: copper gold in color with a very slight haze. There is a frothy two to three finger head that retains nicely eventually breaking and leaving a full foam cap.

S: hops - pine and grapefruit come to the fore, there is a background smell of some malt too.

T: the hops bitterness grabs you up front, but then dulls and there is a soapyness on the finish. There is a sweetness of malts there trying to get through but it seems to be washed out by the hop bitterness.

M: lower carbonation with a medium mouth feel.

O: this was a bit dull in my opinion. The bottle was just over a month old, not the prime for freshness, but still it should be drinkable. I just found the hops bitter and they did not provide any of the flavor the nose promised. I won't give up on this though,I am hopeful it was just an off batch and I will get a better result next time.

Got this at the LCBO in Waterloo.

From a bomber into a snifter
IBU: 65
15 plato - 2.5 plato
Bottled 22 May 2013
Hops: Simcoe, Chinook, Columbus and Summit
California ale yeast

APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, tighter looking, fluffy, white head with very good retention. Brunt orange in color, clear, with no carbonation evident. Decent wisp remains until the end leaving some solid lacing down the glass. Really good looking.

SMELL: Piles of hops on the nose. Pine, grapefruit and some sweet honeydew melon on the nose. Some caramel and pineapple too. Lots of pine and pineapple for sure. This is great.

TASTE: Pale malts, some caramel up front, with honeydew melon, pineapple and grapefruit at the swallow. Big and bold, lingering aftertaste of bitter hops, grapefruit, pine and hints of melon sweetness. This is my style of IPA for sure. Really flavorful and enjoyable.

PALATE; Medium-full body with medium levels of carbonation. Creamy and smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes dry. Very nice, full, creamy feel. Great.

OVERALL: This was outstanding. Totally proves that making a top notch, world-class IPA in Ontario s more than possible. Rivals Nickelbrook's Headstock IPA for top spot in my books, and I really hope they decide to brew this regularly. I've had my fair share of well-received, highly publicized IPA in my day, and this is just as good, if not better than all of them. Not sure why the other reviews aren't as positive. This is really, really good.

Pours a clear, deep brass with a rocky eggshell head. Retention is excellent and huge swathes of lace cover the glass on the way down. Grapefruit, orang and pine fill the nose, with a balancing biscuity specialty malt. The taste is a smack in the face of hops - massive pine, apricot, white grapefruit rind and orange flavors mix with a sturdy, nutty malt profile. The mouthfeel is light on carbonation with a mouthcoating bitterness that lasts long in the infinitely hoppy finish.

For hours after consuming, I had a Vicks Vaporub feel on the palate. Very hoppy stuff. I highly recommend and will be seeking out more bombers myself. This is a great IPA reminiscent of some of the best West Coast examples. Fiercely hoppy stuff.
