Purchased at the LCBO for just under $3.00 for a 473ml can. Served at 6deg C in a tulip

A- Opens well and pours a fine head that settles to a film within a couple of minutes. Very dark brown

S- Lots going on here.... Chocolate, coffee and chilies.

T- Has a nice coffee/chocolate hit then comes the chilies. The chilies build and build until you get that crest of heat. Not that enjoyable actually

M- Nice and creamy!

O- Don't like chili beers. Guess they don't work for me.

Food Pairing

If I liked this hot spicy beer it would pair well with...... Sushi! Believe it or not this spicy beer would go well with non-spicy rolls.

Enjoy!

Got this one from hopsolutely this past summer. Cheers!

From a can into a pint glass.

Stout with cinnamon, coffee, cayenne and vanilla.
Magnum hops and California ale yeast

APPEARANCE: A clear dark brown pour yields a one finger, medium looking, slightly creamy, light tan head with good retention. Clear black body with no visible carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a full wisp with carbonation decorating the top. A ring and some dots remain but no real lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Cinnamon and definite cayenne on the nose, with vanilla notes and roasted coffee as well. More cayenne comes out as it warms, as does the vanilla. Pretty good and nothing overwhelms.

TASTE: Smoky peppers up front with cinnamon notes and vanilla at the swallow. Some toffee and roasted flavors as well. Bolder and lingering finish of vanilla, cinnamon, some bitter coffee and roasted notes, with a nice punch of cayenne heat as well. Not overpowering but adds a nice slap after the swallow. Well measured.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Semi-creamy on the palate, goes down fine with a bit of a chili burn and finishes a touch mouth-coating. Some heat lingers.

OVERALL: Not bad at all. For some reason I thought this was going to be a train wreck, but it turned out quite nice. The adjuncts are all there and nothing dominates the show. Solid stuff all around. Cheers again guys. Recommended.

Shrink-labelled tallboy can from the LCBO; packaged Sept 24 2014 and served slightly chilled.

Pours an opaque blackish-brown cola colour, equipped with some reddish highlights and a thin layer of pepper-derived sediment, which gradually deposits at the bottom of the glass. Up top, I am greeted with roughly one finger of light tan-coloured foam, which proceeds to recede fairly quickly over the next couple of minutes, leaving behind a wispy film and modest-sized collar. Spicy and malty on the nose - a subtle, earthy heat comes through from the cayenne pepper, with additional hints of vanilla and cinnamon atop a layer of roasted malts, coffee and baker's chocolate. The coffee-related facets of the aroma seem to be a bit muted, but to be fair this can is nearing 6 months of age.

Interesting stuff. Molasses, caramel and roasted barley get things started off on the right foot, with flavours of dark chocolate and dark-roasted coffee beans featuring strongly. The coffee bitterness intensifies toward the end of the sip, with a pleasant blend of spicy cinnamon, vanilla and cayenne pepper heat tying things up nicely. The cayenne manages to build up into a nice, earthy heat that lingers on well into the aftertaste, warming the back of the throat. The mouthfeel is a little on the light/watery side, with weak carbonation and a smooth, creamy palate presence. Spicy enough to make my nose a little sweaty as I near the end of the pint.

Final Grade: 3.7, a respectable B grade. This can of Red Rocket Coffee Spiced Stout may be a little past its prime, but I am still liking what I am tasting. The base stout is not particularly interesting in-and-of itself, but the combination of cinnamon and cayenne results in a beautifully spicy blend. This one is actually hot enough that I could see it being a turn-off to some consumers - but if you are at all a fan of chile beer, this neat little niche brew is well worth the risk. Thumbs up; I'll keep an eye out for this one in the future.

Dark, dark brown with amber highlights. Half inch of dark beige head that went to a slick. Some lacing but no retention.

Creamy aroma of malted milk with mild spiciness of vanilla and cayenne pepper.

The malted milk is first in the taste then bitter coffee. Strong cayenne pepper that formed the aftertaste. Very little roasted malt stout taste. The cayenne dominates.

The mouthfeel is on the heavier side of medium. The pepper burns the lips and the mouth making this a little tricky to rate.

Very interesting. I enjoyed it and the cayenne worked but I would like it toned down a bit with more coffee stout taste. This beer needs to be renamed with "cayenne" to be fair to consumers.

Poured from a tallboy purchased at the LCBO, into a pint glass. Not quite a straight pint, but it's nothing fancy either. This is my first review in a while, since I've been drinking more whiskey, wine, and homebrewed mead than beer, but I'm certainly digging it.

Appearance - For a stout, I'd say it's fairly good, with a darker coloured head that dissipated relatively quickly, otherwise it's more or less pitch black - indicative of a good stout I'd say. I'd like to see the head last a little bit longer though.

Smell - certainly a treat to smell it as well, nice burnt malt with some dark roasted coffee and a bit of cinnamon right at the back.

Taste - If I had to summarize it into a word - unique. I'm certainly enjoying it, since it's not a fruity beer, nor is it an immensely hoppy mouthful of pine-cones. It's got some typical stout flavours of dark chocolate and roasted malt, with some nice black coffee notes and the cayenne pepper finishing it off.

Mouthfeel - it's a stout, but not a particularly heavy one. Not very carbonated, not as creamy as a nitro stout as far as I can tell, but it's definitely a bit creamy, and a bit heavier than guinness, just not quite in a "creamy" way if that makes sense. It definitely coats the mouth a bit, like most stouts.

Overall - this beer has chased off some of the "mouthful of pine-cones" blues I've been getting with a lot of local beers. From "lightly" hopped lagers to the double IPAs, it seems that "balance" isn't in the ontario brewer's vocabulary at the moment. It's great to load hops into IPAs and DIPAs, but IMO a sessionable beer needs a bit less sometimes, just enough to kiss the back end of the beer, and there needs to be more than just the resiny and citrusy hops being represented in local beers it seems, but I digress. This beer is darn good, and promises a unique combination (at least as has been available to me) that has certainly left me satisfied. At 5.3 abv, I'd say it's pretty sessionable. The only things I think that need improvement are the presence of cinnamon and vanilla in the finished product - it doesn't need it, but if it's advertised, it should be there, and also that the head could last a bit longer. Otherwise, and all things considered, a great pint.
