22 oz bottle pours with little carbonation, but is the right shade of black and what few bubbles that appear are a nice shade of beige.

Nose is Hershey's syrup, straight up. Smells good, I feel like I should be making chocolate milk with this. Not much in the way of hops and yeast.

Taste throws out a bit of roast and herbal hops to complement the strong chocolate flavors. Mouthfeel needs some carbonation, but other than that it is viscous and silky. This beer is quite good really, impressive. Reminds me a bit of a sweeter version of Buried Hatchet. Its not a complex brew, but what flavors are there compliment each other well and goes down pretty easy. Id be happy to share this one with out-of-staters.

This brewery was a tough one to locate, and understand. Seems as though the brewery started out as Cornel's Brewing (Corey Nelson, owner. Clever), but changed at some point to Gulf Coast Brewing, per his current use of Facebook. They're a start up, so its possible labeling was already conceived, and I'm sure it's hard to throw away money on products. Or, Cornel's is the brand, Gulf Coast is the company. Either way, this is where this beer belongs.

Pours a nearly pitch black, very small foamy head, dissipates quickly. Head was dark brown. Aroma was somewhat fudgy, and of roasted coffee. Somewhat tannic on the back end. Taste is surprisingly good. Rich fudge, chocolate, coffee, roast and mild earthen bitterness. The carbonation was a tad low, resulting in the meager head, but it lended a rather creamy and full body.

It's seems like this startup beer will require a little refinement, but despite its rough edges, its a surprisingly tasty beer. At $6 a bomber, I think I'll grab a few more.

Glass Used: Nonic pint

Appearance: Midnight black body, no light is shining through this one...ever. The head, well my bottle seemed to be over-carbonated as I poured very little and the foam exploded. The head was a large bubbled foam that seemed to hang around forever. When it finally receded, a thick cap stuck around for most of the pint.

Smell: All chocolate syrup with a teensy trail of malt swirling around the glass.

Taste: The chocolate is bitter on the palate with a surprising slightly salty caramelized sugar finish. Some maltiness comes through but it's pretty minimal.

Mouthfeel: Pretty light body and mouthfeel; thin and water with excessive carbonation. Not sure if that was intended or I got an off bottle.

Overall: Not a bad chocolate stout from Southeast Texas. This stout goes down easy and would be a fun session stout. I will definitely give this one another whirl and recommend those looking for a new local stout to try.
