Pours translucent gold with a lot of snowflake/dandruff yeast flakes. Huge foam that has staying power. Nose reminds me of yeast-bready banana bread, holiday cakes, and pineapple display at a Hawaiian buffet. Palate offers plenty of pineapple, tartness, wheaty/malty backbone, and a chewy yeastyness all through till the finish. Also has a musty, female pheromone sort of mustiness to it, in a good way. Smile.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a beautiful golden/light brown color with three fingers of white head that quickly dissolved into a thin lacing of foam that covered the entire top of the beer.

Aroma: Typical Belgian Triple-like aromas of yeast, malt, citrus, caramel and spices. I get floral aromas from hops, some sweet aromas from crystalized sugar, some citrus aromas of oranges and grapefruit, plus spices of black pepper, coriander, clove, ginger, finally, malty aromas of buttered bread.

Taste: Malty upfront, followed by some citrusy notes of grapefruit and. There’s some good sweetness from what I’m assuming is crystalized sugar, and some subtle hoppy bitterness too. Finally, there some good spiciness to this beer, not spiciness as in hot, but spiciness as in spices. I get black pepper, coriander, some clove, and a touch of ginger.

Mouthfeel: Medium with some good carbonation to tickle the tastebuds. With an ABV of 9%, there’s a very pronounced, and pleasant alcohol presence on the palate.

Overall: This beer is fantastic!! I love how well balanced it is, between the bready malts, to the floral and citrusy bitterness of the hops, to the beer’s inherent sweetness. It’s excellent!!

Appearance - This is a deep copper in color with a head that came up well but didn't stick around for long.

Smell - The big Belgian hops are all over the smell. It is classic European with a very mild malt balance. This also shows a bit of herbal pepper character like what you'd find in a bell pepper.

Taste - The hops dial it back a few notches at the taste. There's also a sweetness that jumps in that distracts from the overall depth of the ale.

Mouthfeel - This is medium-bodied on its best day with some rather dull carbonation and a half-hearted effort at a bittering finish.

Drinkability - This was a nice, easy drinker but not the heavy-hitting Tripel that I had hoped for.

Served into my Chimay chalice. Blonde light sweet. Abundant head. Nice appearance.
Sweet aroma.
This is a typical tripel. A wonderful choice for a nice weather beer if you don't like lagers. Or even if you do. I am quickly growing fond of tripels and this is as good as any.
A worthy effort.

11.2oz brown bottle with a best before date.

Mild haze within the golden color, thin lacing is what is left after a quick to foam and quick to drop head. Botanical, exotic fruit, chalky yeast, phenolic and cracker-like nose. Crispness pops from the creamy medium body. Honey and alcohol. Dry maltiness melds withe fruity alcoholic esters, super ripe pineapple. Yeasty, graininess goes a bit biscuity. Kiss of cotton candy and lavender. Dry warming finish with some vague herbal hop flavor.

Definitely in the raw and it shows though stays well within the style, a good pick.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Sept 2013. I bought this at my local beer specialist in York, having tried it for the first time on a trip to Belgium last year. The Half Moon brewery in Bruges, where this is made, is well worth a visit.

Poured into a Stella chalice. A deep golden-amber colour with strong carbonation; a great column of fine bubbles rises from the centre of the glass. A huge white head forms on top; this has excellent retention. A rich aroma: sweet, fruity and alcoholic. Notes reminiscent of apricot and lemon, and a hint of sourness. Fantastic!

The taste is sweet and complex, with a lingering finish. Light hints of fruit. Considerable notes of alcohol, which make for a warmer flavour. Mouthfeel is very smooth and slightly astringent. A faintly sweet aftertaste remains.

A lovely tripel that posesses a rich yet subtle flavour. The first time I had this was with dinner, and I concluded that it went well with food. Not an everyday beer, but worth seeking out.

A- This beer pours a deep orange body that is slightly hazy with a swirling microsea of big bubbles. A light eggshell colored head breaks up soon.

S- The dry cidery hit leads to a dry candy ester hint in the finish. Otherwise the aroma is pretty clean.

T- The dry candy note leads to a soft dry pine bite of hops with some alcohol heat in the finish. There is a slight sweetness in the finish as it opens up and some cidery notes grow in the finish.

M- The big scrubbing fizz leads to an alcohol warmth in the finish.

O- This is a bit sugary but not much of the classic Tripel yeast profile that is hard to capture but delicious. There alcohol and fizz with some sweetness makes it ok to drink but nothing special.

A: I poured into a tripel glass. he color is golden to reddish yellow/gold. A hard pour had a nice thick 2" head. cloudy. good lacing.

S: Bread like nose, I guess biscuit like is good....Fruity and hoppy. cereal and flowery at the same time. hops come out citrus like. with lots of hop perfume.

T: Thick rich and sweet at first. its coats your palate, then you get that flowery hop bite, nice balance, dry finish. its a tad on the sweet side for a tripel. but who says it cannot be sweeter?
Still not my favorite I had. as its warms up past 50f, the malt really stands out and you get even more hops, nice balance there.

M: medium carbonation and medium body, dry. easy to drink no alcohol even at 9%, kind of dangerous to the non experienced REAL Belgian beer drinker.

O: I think I have to finish the 4 pack to know more, I will write more later. I like it.

Slightly-hazed sunny peach/gold color, a few random bits of sediment despite a steady pour (I never mind the floaters), and a thick, creamy head that, while impressive, dies off to a big bubbly skim in about a minute.

While the aroma is on the subtle side for a tripel (ie. laid back spice and alcohol presence), it's clean, pure and a pleasure to take in. Some banana, apple and pear; mild and polite yeast/white bread. No more, no less.

This is perhaps the most subtle and laid-back tripel I've yet had (outside of a couple poorly-conceived American wanna-be attempts at the style). As with the aroma, the flavor focuses on the fruity characteristics most. It's like a tropical fruit snack pack. Banana...cherry...pear...peach...mango...all these mingle with a pronounced caramel flavor, ginger snap cookies, and crisp, almost pilsner-like hops. Maltier yet less spicy and alcoholic than most tripels, I was initially underwhelmed...but it grows on you, and I appreciate its subtler vibe.

Feels soft and smooth and manageable, definitely not overly sticky or chewy. Feels absolutely lovely in the mouth, and I suppose it's strange that this is by far my favorite aspect of the beer, but it is.

Not a tripel that goes for the jugular, but also nice to know you won't be getting an instant headache either (I love a good tripel, but they're beastly things sometimes). An easy, pleasurable, uncomplicated beer that drinks like any number of other quality Belgians. Just not a tripel for newbies, as it will definitely give the wrong impression.

Heavy malts and a hint of soy sauce in the nose, a bit sweet

Heavy beery flavor, a profile of multi grain artisan bread, with some American macro lager brew qualities to it as well. Walnuts, and mild pine nuts

Medium bodied, heavily creamy carbonation and a little warmth in the end

Overall, a very drinkable beer, but lacking in the flavor depth I was expecting for the price

Appearance: Clear, deep golden/amber body. The moderately-sized creamy white head drops readily but it maintains a solid collar throughout. Sparse, splashy lacing lines the glass. Subsequent pours become hazy as the sedimented yeast is roused.

Aroma: Fruity and yeasty, gently caramelish and honey-like. Floral and spicy, almost minty hops.

Flavor: All of the gentle fruit and yeast found in the nose carries over into the flavor. I find plenty of pear and apple, as well as a bit of citrus zest (lemon, orange), and some soft tangerine and peach. It's gently caramelish, or perhaps more like lightly browned sugar. It's honeyish and floral. There are suggestions of spice to it although they're light (cinnamon, anise, ginger); and along with the spicy, seeming minty, leafy and floral hops it's just a slight touch cola-like. The alcohol never shows; and it's mildly bitter with just enough that in combination with the spiciness it never becomes "sweet". It's more rich and complex than you might expect of a "tripel", but this is a Brugse tripel. It's very rounded, and you don't find any specific note, or notes, at any certain point as it crosses the palate. They're pretty much all there, and sometimes you find different things at different times, especially in the very long-lingering finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-full and dextrinous in body. Well-carbonated, it initially bristles the palate, but then becomes more "foaming" as it warms, and thus more "creamy".

Overall: Quite an interesting and charming beer! Highly satisfying. Quite unique. Worth seeking out!

I *must* comment on the FEEL first, because I am surprised that other reviewers haven't noticed. The mouth feel of this beer is that of Champagne! This is something that I do not recall having experienced in American beers, even my favorites. It's as if the bubbles from the carbonation are very tiny and very active. I happen to like this - a LOT; thus, my rating.

The smell is pleasant - a bit fruity, but overall nothing spectacular.

The taste is quite good! It's clean and crisp, not slick or syrupy. I would describe the body as medium. I barely taste or smell the alcohol. But it is definitely there, as I feel myself getting a bit woozy as I write this. (And I'm not a fan of low alcohol beers. If I am going to drink a beer, it may as well do some GOOD, you know? I'm not interested in any beer or ale that comes in at less than 6% ABV. But the higher, the better.)

I will definitely get this again!!

It may be the case that I go for a more defined beer in type/style/genre. Compared to many of the other trippels (Belgium only, not American versions), this one just seemed a bit more subtle in every department. Less fruit in the start, though it does stay on the finish. Less nose than others. A disclaimer: my nose may be tainted by a preference for severely hopped beers locally. Color, head, mouthfeel all fine and as expected for style.

Pours a clear amber color with some yeast particulate matter churning about. One finger of dense head forms and sticks around for a long time. Plenty of lacing is left down the glass.

Not the most intense aroma but still has nice qualities of caramel, pears, tropical fruit, with some herbal hops. Seems to have an equal proportion of malt and yeast esters.

Very enjoyable flavor of malt and yeast esters. Notes of caramel, light fruit that gives the beer a vinous quality. The label claims there are toasted malts in this beer but I fail to detect them. More than a slight alcoholic flavor and warmth in the finish. Semi-sweet flavor.

Well done bottle conditioning. Medium body with nice carbonation. My personal tastes would of liked the carbonation to be just a tad more spirited.

Very well done tripel. Will not replace St. Bernardus but still a worthy contender.

Amber golden color, minimal head, not many bubbles present. Aromas of caramel and booze. The taste is full bodied but lacking complexity, very one dimensional. Flavors of dried fruit and honey Teddy Grahams. The finish kind of just creeps up, there is no progression of flavors, just sweet malt and a warmth from the booze. Mouthfeel is slightly rich, slick. Ok at best, not a favorite.

Soft clove and barnyard funky graininess meet the nose with peppercorns, bread and spice. The flavor is quite zesty and spicy with a front of cloves and peppercorns. Mid palate perceives more bread and lemon as this finishes with Apple and pear. The feel is very easy and light with a slight dryness.

The beer appeared a clear, dark yellow, almost a copper color with a thick fluffy head with decent retention. No lacing to note.

The nose had citrus to it along with a nice bready quality and a bit of alcohol was noticeable.

The taste followed the nose very well along with some noticeable spices and perhaps some earthy hops and a somewhat nice boozy finish.

The beer had a medium feel to it with great carbonation. The beer was clean, crisp and very pleasant to drink. Overall, a very good example of the style.

A: A honey-gold pour is a dark murky orange is the vessel filled with a vibrant fulfillment of yeasty goodiness. The head is milky and frothy, a finger high with a strong rate of retention. A strong effervesce makes all that large macro particles of yeasty goodiness dance with delight while making my heart flutter. Love the extra junk in the glass as always.

S: The nose was restrained, bright oranges, with a lemony sourness with some wet pale grain muskiness.

T: The flavor was musky grains, lemony sourness, fresh greenery that all blends beautifully together. Oranges, a hint of fresh grapefruit, wheat, wet citrus with a bit of musky tropical fruitiness. The flavor is bright and spicy, clean, and well polished and rounded with a tight crisp nature. A small bit of toasted grain sweetness with some musky yeastiness, bread, lemon and pineapple rounds things out.

M: Mouthful was crisp and bright from the carbonation with a nice frothy body.

O: Overall crisp clean and very easy to consume and forget this is 9.0%abv that feels and drinks almost like a session in the beginning. Enjoyable triple with a hidden alcohol that makes for easy, generous sips. Not overly spicy, overly inundated with alcohol, just a very good example of a cleanly brewed and well crafted triple that many will overlook in their pursuit of the next bigger, bolder thing. The alcohol will catch up with you in the end, but you’ll enjoy the ride getting there. Crazy smooth drinkability even with all those yeasty chunks.

Taste: Pleasant fruit forward (apple/pear/cider like), nice malty throughout without becoming syrupy, bready, very mild hop like astringency with adequate carbonation

Mouthfeel: Creamy, Adequate carbonation and hops to prevent from becoming too malty

A: pours a slightly hazy honey color with a finger of white head that fades into a thin layer with little lacing.

S: Belgian spices with lots of bubblegum and candy sugar aromas. Faint light fruit aromas toward the finish.

T: spices up front again with a lot of candy augar and white grape flavors. The finish is of sweet breads.

M: medium-light body with lowish carbonation, this beer isn't too thick, but is a little on the watery side.

O: an alright tripel. It needs a crisper body and more depth, but it's still solid.

A) Pours with a two finger thick, white head. Golden body color with visible sediment. Head slowly settles. Tight, sticky lacing on the drink down.
S) Clover, banana, orange peel, and floral
T) Malty sweetness pairs with subtle caramel, some banana and citrus notes, and some apple.
M) Medium body. Creamy. Fairly smooth. Alcohol warmth in the finish with a subtle tannic feel.
O) A delicious brew! Besides the visible sediment this is a fantastic beer, making it easy to overlook the aesthetics.

Poured from 22oz bottle into a tulip glass. Good solid pop off the cork.

A real nice golden and clear orange amber body, and nice slow rising thin carbonation creeping up, plus a big fat rising column of fire in the middle. Head is rocky, thick white and clumpy with good retention, and clings real nicely to the sides. Really good looking tripel here.

Very clean smelling, with airy malt, and a nice candy sweetness. Hints of peppermint and menthol. Some sweet pear and apple fruits. Really nice smelling.

Palate hits with a very solid body. Nice malts roll and coat the palate with a nice candy sweetness. An interesting hop bitterness angle something between pine and matching spritzy fruit on the nose of pear. Lost of carbonation, and a little gaseous but controllable. Not boozy either.

Overall pretty solid, and it does have a nice menthol action to it on the finish.

750mL to tulip. 2009 inscribed along the side of the cork, aged 1 1/2 years. The story on the reverse of the label was lost in translation, I suppose, since the text is riddled with mispellings and other grammatical errors.

A: A large foamy/fizzy white head of 2 1/2 fingers rises and falls fairly quickly. The body is clear and medium-dark orange-brown in color. The initial pour produces large light colored sediment suspended in solution. The last pour unveiled so many floating yeast particles that I was forced to decant through a mesh screen, something I almost never do. The pre-filtered pour was far too ugly for consumption. Since aging was a personal decision, I won't deduct from the appearance rating.

S & T: A shadow of its former self, if not completely transformed. The nose is filled with fruity/estery notes plus a mild earthiness. Sour apple, japanese pear. Above average sweetness. Even with Tripel standards in mind, there is some big alcoholic heat coming through, much bigger than the 9% indicated on the label.

M: Alcoholic. The carbonation is lively and highly prickly but, perhaps, it saves the texture of this brew from being over-the-top cloying.

D: Average at best. My first experience was with a fresh 330mL bottle. The younger, smaller format suited me much better and was nothing short of impressive. This bottle was practically forgetable.

Pours out a slightly cloudy and very effervescent
orange to yellow/amber color with one finger of white suds that dissapate very quickly.
Very light aroma but the burning yeast and malt from belgium come through.
This one tastes the part for a tripel. Wonderful yeast and sugary malts mask the 9% very well.
Mouthfeel is a little sticky but the flavors leave quickly and the mouth is ready for the next sip.
Drinkability is only OK here but cold this one could go down quickly and with a lot of volume.

Review from 3/2011 notes. Poured into a Nostradamus flute glass. Pours a cloudy medium orange amber with tons of floating yeast particles. A thin white head with light lacing and good retention. Aroma of light fruit, malt and Belgian spicing. Taste is similar to aroma. Pleasant light fruit, sweet malt, spice. A bit of a hop kick in the finish. Nicely made tripel. Worth a revisit.
