A – Dark brown ice tea – almost cola. Great retention and lace on a khaki head.

S – Warm booze, brazil nuts, caramel, and mocha.

T – Booze up front with burnt caramel. Hazelnut, cherry pits and leather through the center. Dry, boozy finish.

M – Medium/light body for the style. Nice carbonation. The alcohol leaves a warm, lingering finish.

O – An ok Quad. The booze feels disassociated from the rest of the profile.

A: Very dark in color, almost black, but when held to the light some brilliant ruby tones come through.. Not a lot of head, very atypical of most Belgian styles.

S: Malty, with a distinct burnt sugar smell, caramel and molasses come through as well as some earthy tones. Some dark fruit in the finish as well as some chocolate notes, although I usually get a little more Belgian yeast character...

T: Now that is interesting, dark malt character, with an almost burnt to the bottom of the pot flavor- but in a good way. There is a lovely fruity sweetness to it, almost like chocolate covered raspberries. There is a very lovely fruitiness to this, that counteracts the burned caramel flavors. This is one of those beers that each time you sip it, you find something new and interesting.

M: Medium to heavy body, carbonation feels light and fine, although the tickle on my tongue seems to lean towards a heavier carbonation than I feel.

O: Overall I'm not really sure.. seems to have a rather unique flavor, but a touch harsh and a bit sweet at the same time. There is definitely less typical Belgian flavors in this guy, but perhaps that's the grain pushing through. While the taste is completely different, it almost reminds me a little of Duchesse, in a yin and yang type of way.

Bottle poured into a snifter. Served cold but sipping to let warm to room temperature

A: dark dark brown with a reddish hue. No lacing or head

S: cherries upfront for sure complex malty smell sugary sweet

T: very sweet fruits mostly cherry definitely plum and currants

M: medium bodied and sweet finish.

O: in no way is this a bad beer, but I expected better. Doesn't hold a candle to rochefort 10 but an enjoyable beer for sure.

750ml served into a duvel tulip

pours a dark hazelnut brown color with a shade of reddish amber. finishes with a sticky tan head that takes awhile to relent

classic textbook belgian quad smell that produces an aroma rich in spiced herbal notes, a butternut toffee, and is completed by a lingering black licorice/anise

the taste starts with the dark fruits, with just a tinge of the alcohol thats present, then in comes the spice vanilla flavor leads into a sweet brown sugar that dissipates and becomes slightly dry. maybe a little bitterness at the end

a pretty solid outing for a quad. pretty textbook but with a strong taste. id rank it in the top 10 of quads ive tried but not top 5

Pours an amber color with a thick two finger pillowy head which gives way to skim and leaves nice strand of lace on the glass. The aroma is of dark fruits and caramel malts. The aroma is slightly faint. The taste has a caramel malt backbone, over top there are flavors of dark fruits. There is also a slight milk chocolate taste along with brandy like flavors. At the end there is a very slight hop bite. The mouthfeel is moderatley carbonated. Overall this is a good beer, the aroma was a little faint, but the taste was good and complex.
