On nitro tap at Rattle n Hum. Wasn't sure what to expect & was rewarded with a serious pint of almost chewable, mildly coffee flavored liquid that is smooth as silk on the tongue & just as easy on the tastebuds. Where's the bitter? For the close a balance it sort of plays tag among the tastebuds.

Standard long lasting, creamy head that gives way to some serious an lacing.

The 8% is dangerously absent in the taste, which could lead to errors in judgement. Be forewarned.

16oz nitro can poured into a pint glass.

A: Beautiful cascading bubbles effect, a la Guinness. Very dark brown. Good clarity. And inch and a half of creamy tan head retains wonderfully. Thick sheets of lacing.

S: malty sweet with aromas of chocolate sauce, brown bread, blackstrap molasses, and Bernard even maple. Candied fruits and plum pudding are very apparent as well. Hint of woody smoke tucked deeply within.

T: Milk chocolate and nutty cocoa are the dominant flavors. Hints of cola and brown bread. Concord grape and juicy plum. Faint kiss of alcohol. Sweet throughout, though that slight hint of woody smoke dries it out ever so slightly on the finish.

M: Medium thick body with a good heft. Nitro treatment gives it the expected creamy-smooth feel.

O: I'm generally not a fan of nitro beers. It makes for a good mouthfeel, but I feel that it dumbs a beer down in the flavor department. In this case, it smooths Old Chub over in all the right areas. Sweetness is played up a bit, but the smokey edge is rounded off. I actually prefer this to the carbonated version. It's just that much more drinkable.

Tallboy can into a traditional pint glass.

Classic cascading action, deep brown hue with reddish highlights. A half finger of frothy tan cream sits on top with no intention of dissipating. Sheets of lacing have similar staying power.

Moderate aroma, malty and bready with coffee notes, but nothing more that jumps from the glass. No surprise given the nitro treatment, which is why the flavor is so pleasantly unexpected - it's fairly rich and full, with coffee and cream, milk chocolate, and a lightly toasted bready malt character. Pleasing but controlled sweetness with almost no bittering hops detected, just the faintest herbaceous note. Medium length finish with a touch of lingering sweetness, again putting me in mind of a deli coffee with milk and sugar.

Medium body, only slightly watery, the expected creamy smoothness of nitro.

I would be hard pressed to identify this as a wee heavy in a blindfold test. I'd probably guess milk stout. Doesn't have the flavor profile of a traditional scotch ale at all. No fruity notes, smoke or peat, zero booze. Nonetheless I really liked this. I have always had a soft spot for nitro cans and this one is amongst the best I've ever had. Fun to drink, more flavorful than anticipated, and just all-around pleasing to the senses. I'll be back for more. Recommended!
