Poured from a 12 oz. can.
**I have since discovered the best use of a sweet Scotch Ale is to make a black and tan, say with an American IPA or Ale. Thats delish because it boldens the brew, provides backbone, and cuts the sweetness. Any one else try Black and Tans with Scotch Ales?
Appearance: Pours a dark brown with rising bubbles. Large tan, not long lasting head, good lacing.
Smell: Scotch malt dominates. Too Sweet caramel toffee for me. peat with some brown sugar. too much sweetness overall.
Taste: Complex, but too sweet for me, not a great after taste. Too dessert like, cloying after. Like the nose... brown sugar plus scotch taste with peat and stale smoke. earthy hops, a complex, but over-sweet taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium weight, moderate carbonation. Creamy, smooth. Alcohol and sweetness too prominent for me. Dont love after taste, makes me want to get a cleaner American IPA to follow it.
Overall: If you like Scotch ale, Founders Dirty Bastard is a better path.
Now on a winter walk, with room for one strong, powerful sipping beer, this is a winner.
