Look: It pours a light brown, but one it's gathered into the pint glass, it's a very dark brown. With a mild pour, it still generated a very decent three finger head that so far is leaving a decent amount of lacing.
Smell: This smells like whiskey almost. Lots of wood, a bit of molasses. A bit of "dirt" to it as well. Earthy some might say. I'm loving it. I already have a decent idea of what this will be like.
Taste: Sure enough, it taste like it's been aged in a barrel, with the wood notes. The molasses is present as well, and give it a very sweet finish. As it warms up, I'm getting a bit of caramel in there as well.
Feel: Full bodied, medium carbonation, and a bit of warmth when it goes down. I'm severely disappointed I'm not a lumberjack in the middle of winter drinking this in my cabin. Maybe next year.
Overall: A extremely good beer. My first in the "Scottish Ale" category, so I can't compare to others as of yet, but who would want to? This is everything I want it to be. With that being said, I took a hard look at my ratings and asked "Can it truly be improved upon?" And I said "No it can't" to Taste and Mouthfeel. So I upped them to 5s. Looks: I'd like a bit more lacing. Smell: A bit more than just the wood/molasses that I was getting.
