Poured from a "Canned 10-1-2012" can. I sat on this for a year as one of the first beers I've ever aged.
The beer pours a dark brown, almost and black, except when held to light, which reveals some amber hues. The head and lacing are not present hardly, but having had this before, I know this is not usual. I suspect with the aging this has resulted.
The smell is pleasant, coffee and chocolate drift in and out, as do bread and toast, caramel and toffee and healthy maltiness. These profiles continue with the taste, but more flavor expressions emerge. The beer has a bit of spiciness and a whisky or scotch like profile. Something potent. Despite this, the beer retains a creamy feel and sips smoothly.
I've always enjoyed this beer and it's nice to try it in an aged form. Whether fresh or aged, you get a great beer with a lot of flavor and aroma to offer.
