Pours a deep brown with amber highlights. VERY effervescent at first. I mean you can literally hear the bubbles popping. However, after about two minutes, absolutely no signs of carbonation remain. Seriously, this is the flattest beer I've ever drank. Zero retention or lacing.
Smells of caramel, peat and scotch. Tastes like more of the same with additions of subtle chocolate notes and a backdrop of dark fruits.
It feels very smooth and light-bodied, which is alright for the style but the complete lack of carbonation causes me to give a 1 for mouthfeel.
Despite the nice flavors, the carbonation problem made this one hard to finish. I would definitely give this brew another chance, though, based on its reputation.
