Can into pint glass:
Color/Appearance: A vigorous pour elicits a firm looking, creamy white head. Somewhat resilient, dying away in ~2 minutes. Cool rusty bronze color! Reminiscent of old scotch whisky.

Nose: Mellow but not mild. Old wood, a little musty with some toffee.

Taste: A little vinous. Oddly sweet with a sticky toffee taste. The kind of flavor that a beer should feel like, not taste like.

Mouthfeel: Clinging, lingering. Viscous with the lightness of saltwater taffy, which is pretty viscous itself, I guess.

My take: Caveat, I'm still looking for a wee heavy that I like. The smell is VERY interesting for the style, and the mouthfeel is quite nice. But the alcohol content seems to be a hindrance to the taste, whether it was intentional or unwitting inclusion of unsavory volatiles, I imagine that this would be better at 6.0%. Man, that sounds blasphemous...

Not really sure why I never rated this one. Picked up a can at Pin's, just because I haven't had it in a while.

Cloudy, rusty brown pour, with a inch or so of off-white head that lasts a while, leaving some lace on the glass. Aroma is pretty much full-blown malts and dark sugars, light phenols. More of the same in the taste, caramel malts, toffee and brown sugar, sweet chocolate notes, lightly smoked peat, some earthy hops. Smooth mouthfeel with a slightly sticky aftertaste, medium body. Pretty much appropriate all around for the style.

Poured from a can with a "canned on" date of 2/20/14; into a pint glass.
Appearance - a surprisingly dark mahogany with a thin, beige head. Lacing is brilliant!
Smell - an interesting aroma with hints of caramel, toffee, candy, cinnamon, spice and booze.
Taste - flavorful brew with a mixed bag of sweet, creamy and roasted malts!
Feel - medium, creamy body; some bitterness on the finish, along with a mild and welcomed alcohol burn.
Overall - packs a bit of a punch and is available at a pretty good value.
