Billed as "Sherry Butt G'Knight", Oskar Blues' infatuation with sherry barrel aged beer lands them at the precipice of where beer crosses over to wine. Strong attributes of each duel it out over the palate and to the drinkers whimsy, curiosity and delight.
Rusty amber with hints of bronze, the beer soon looses its bubbly carbonation and foam to resin in the glass like true sherry with those tawny brow ribbons flowing through, Its strong scent of fortified wine is tangy, playfully vinegar-like, toffee-like nutty, and curiously of piney hops. Steely sorghum graces the early palate, but soon falls away in favor of dry fruitiness.
With the beers tangy tartness saturating the tongue, the fortified grape booziness soon steals the show with blackberry, cherry, blackcurrant, juniper and lime undertones. With an exoskeleton of brown sugar in support, faint malt flavors continue to prop up the near souring taste.
Continuing to dry and sour, the medium-bodied beer trends more wine-like as it traverses across the palate. Its finish is a blend of sour and bitter even with soft ironside mineral, balsamic and steely cola nut sweetness alternating in aftertaste.

Aroma is lightly vinous, with not much else detectable since it sat in the flight a half hour.
Almost cola-like notes emerge in flavor, with a touch of buttery toffee. This is countered by citrusy hop character. There's a slickness in the finish, indicative of diacetyl. A little banana in the surfaces late.
Sampled a week later, lots of barrel and sherry.
