Oskar Blues invited Straight to Ale, Good People Brewing Co., Cahaba Brewing, and Fairhope Brewing Company to their Brevard, NC brewery. The five breweries developed a recipe and began brewing their collaborative brew, named the Hoptub Bath Machine.
The light and crisp brew, which features bright flavors of pear and lemon, with green peppercorns adding a depth of flavor and subtle spiciness, will debut in late October, just prior to The Hangout Oyster Cook-Off and Craft Beer Weekend.

On tap at the Brevard brewery taproom during the 3rd Anniversary celebration.
Pale golden body with a decent head. Looks good but the flavor and fruity & bready aroma are the strong points of this fine collaborative brew. Excellent for style.

Resiny, lightly skunky aroma, with biscuity malt sweetness.
Flavor is resiny, with a sour lemon character that carries into a lightly bitter, biscuity finish. The peppercorns kick in in the aftertaste.

Tasted citrus-y. Reminded me of Sculpin. Outstanding.

The old saw about people who think that I am tough to shop for clearly don't know where to buy beer certainly applies to me. Buy me CANs of beer & I am a happy/hoppy man! Uncle JedI & Purple Hat Joan sent me several Alabama CANs at my impassioned request, including this gem.
From the CAN: "Alabama Collaboration"; "CANs [-] Inifinitely Recyclable"; "Pack It In, Pack it Out"; "Brewhouse Specialty Ale"; "Oyster Cook-Off & Craft Bbeer Weekend at the Hangout Gulf Shores, AL Nov. 6 & 7 2015"; "Dreamed in Alabama[,] Brewed in Brevard, NC".
I was anxious to Crack! this one open due mostly to CANiosity. Who CAN tell what was about to be unleashed? I CANducted an inverted Glug which produced two fingers of foamy, bone-white head with limited retention. Color was a beautiful Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) with NE-quality clarity. Of course, this was the impetus for the Gelt Gang of Midas, Mammon & Croesus to stop by for a taste. Nose was dank, resinous & I wondered if they hadn't snuck something in from their Colorado brewery. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was just restrained enough to keep it as an APA, but it was dang close to being an AIPA. The hops were kind of minty, almost tea-like and very mellow. Man, this was nice as we approach halftime in the DEN/CHI game that I am watching on TV. Finish was semi-dry, lightly hoppy & like a caress of my palate, rather than a battering ram. CAN I have more like this? Please?

Utilizing some of the newest and sexiest hops on the market, Oskar Blues teams up with east coast brewers Straight to Ale, Cahaba, Good People and Fairhope for a tandem in taste that celebrates lemon and pear flavors upon a pale ale base with a few other tricks up its sleeve.
Bright copper and with the most modest of haze, a frothy white cap tops the ale and pushes tantilizing citrus, tropical and orchard fruits onto the senses. With a supple candied caramel and honey sweetness, the early palate is lightly toasted and succulently sweet.
As the hops unfold on the middle, the radiant pineapple, red grapefruit, blood orange, lemon and yes- pear rise to slight prominence over the moderate malt balance. Dripping with seeming candied citrus and fructose, the malts provide that needed sweet balance to keep the taste in check.
Finishing with a herbal medley, its grassy bitterness is soft with pine sap, leaf, stem and a peppery bite. Tea-like and with a geranium undertow, the aftertaste is long with bitterness and a twist of lemon. Medium and moderate throughout, the ale is malty-dry and highly drinkable, especially for hop-heads with a potpourri preference.

Pours a crystal clear yellow. Half finger head that reduces quickly. Minimal lacing. Strong ammonia to the nose. Super smooth mouthfeel with pretty high carbonation. Nearly no bitterness, which surprised me considering the smell. Finishes very light on backend. It's strange to have that much smell with no bitterness, but I'd drink it again.
