honestly this surprised me a lot, from oskar blues, this is one of their better beers. didnt expect much from a harder to find than it should be brown ale, but i loved it. the best of english and american brewing styles in one can. a nose of dusty cocoa chocolate malt and a burton type ale yeast, very compatible. there is a lot of carbonation in this, and it sticks, making it a more refreshing example of the style than i am used to. it lightens up the darker roast and pulls up the bigger body to sessioning level. burnt toast and cocoa powder are the flavors i taste the most, but the yeast is not irrelevant here, and neither are the hops, which do a bit more than just bitter, kind of like dales actually, pleasant and robust. clean drinking and delicious, i hope this hits the market soon, i havent seen much of it around, but its one i may buy. these guys need to start packaging their more interesting beer, and while this is just a nut brown, it would be a great place to start.

Pours a moderate brown with nice clarity, white head and some lacing. Nose is malt forwards with notes of cereal grains, mild chocolate, and a hint of brown sugar. Taste is also malt forward with light nuttiness followed by a hint of fruity sweetness. Bready grains come next and hops are nearly undetectable. Mouthfeel is light and well carbonated. Overall, a solid to style brown ale.

First had: on tap at Oskar Blues Homemade Liquids & Solids, Longmont, CO

Poured a mahogany brown with reddish hues and a small white cap that receded to a thin layer. Caramel and toffee in the aroma, nutty, with a subtle floral sensation. Sweet taste, but not sickeningly so, lightly toasted malts, caramel, toffee, nuts, a touch of milk chocolate, with mild floral and earthy hops detectable. Medium-bodied, and nicely drinkable.

On tap at Oskar Blues in Lyons, CO.

Pours a murky dark brown color with a 1 inch beige head that fades to an oily fim. Random spots of lace form on the glass on the drink down. Smell is of brown malts and some nutty aromas. Taste is of brown malts, nut flavors, with a citrus zest taste on the finish. This beer has good carbonation with a crisp and smooth moutfeel. Overall, this is a solid brown ale that I would get again. I am glad I got to try this one as it is nowhere to be found in CA.

Pours from the tap a medium amber-brown color with a bit of off-white foam on top. Aromas of roasted nuts, milk chocolate and a little roast. Light bodied and decently carbonated, with flavors of roasted nuts, milk chocolate and a hint of earthy hops.

Wow, after reading the previous two reviews, I think I got screwed. This beer wasn't good, and I don't know why.
Pours a dark brown/chestnut with absolutely no head. No lacing. Just brown liquid.
Some caramel and sweet malt in the nose, faint. Not much else to it.
Bland taste. The caramel had gone to the end with a whimper finish and malt was stale. With the dark color I expected some stronger malt or caramel or chocolate or something. Whatever I did taste was weak. The carbonation was gone, which I think is bad. At least with it the beer would give some sort of feel. Flat, boring. Drain pour if I had a drain. I left 1/4 glass on the table and left. Blah.

I was ambushed by this beer Friday & today, all wrapped around the axle by my quest of Gordon, this beer impressed the hell outta me!

Poured caramel/ruby red with a 2 fingers deep offwhite head. Great lacing & good head retention

S: deep/biscuitty malt nose with hints of nuttyness (pecan?)

T: Rich maltyness up front, some sweet nuttyness then a slight floral hops presence. This had tons of depth when it a came to maltyness & nuttyness. Finished strong (malty) and made me want more!

MF: Medium bodied, good carbonation & balance

This drank too easy, when the hell is this coming out in a can? (they can't keep up with demand as it is)Yum!

I sampled this last night at the brewpub, and then brought a growler home to enjoy today during college football.

Appearance: Dark red brown with a nice off white head. Head fades relatively quickly to leave just a hint of lacing.

Smell: Slightly fruity aroma, with some caramel and toffee smells.

Taste: Starts off with a malt sweetness, and then it expands to some caramel and toffee tastes, with just a hint of floral hops near the end. Medium bodied, with a fairly low carbonation.

Overall impression: Very tasty and drinkable brew - mixes well with the barbeque ribs at the brewpub.
