Bought on April 12th, 2014, but canned on September 24th, 2012 (...?!). Enjoyed at cellar temperature in a snifter.
Inky blackness oozed out of the can and, darkly pooling in my snifter, created a one-finger head of mocha-brown froth. Beauty.
From the moment I cracked the can open my nose detected a downright lethal dose of chocolate. This is balanced and enhanced by a thwomp (yes, "thwomp") of rum-soaked raisins and prunes, with a touch of earthy vanilla. Notably chocolaty and fruity, like chocolate-covered raisins smell. The aroma also has a bit of a likeness to the dough of a sweet, dark rye bread.
The flavor is a maelstrom of intense chocolaty maltiness and roasty earthiness. And it has a depth of dark fruitiness I usually only get from Belgian strong dark ales. Simply sublime. Must be the age.
The feel is thick, heavy, and sticky... duh! Anyway, it's great.
