Gubna was bred from Oskar Blues Brewery’s hankering to confront 100+ IBUs by cranking up the complexity of hops by pouring Cascade on top of copious amounts of Summit, then balancing that with a backbone of German Dark Munich Malt and Rye Malt. GUBNA’s post-fermentation dry-hopping with both hops allows this monstrosity to gently coax the citrus rind and grapefruit aroma while providing a rye malt-induced, spicy-yet-round middle, and a brisk, clean bitter finish (10 percent ABV, 100+ IBUs).

A - A Thick, vibrant orange haze provides a solid base for the head, which unfortunately wastes this support by emerging as disappointingly thin. The retention which and ephemeral. In it's defence a good residual film of carbonation survives, and some decent lacing barely nudges the overall appearance back into the 4.0.
S - Complexity is present and pleasant, although depth is somewhat lacking. Soft yellow fruits - mango and papaya - hang most conspicuously, with some honeydew melon and pineapple in the background. Freshness comes in the form of grassy notes from the hops, and the malts also contribute a sweetness that blends with citric notes to contribute a subtle aroma of cold lemon pie.
T - The mellow lemon pie continues on the forepalate, and the transition to the mid sees the developing lime notes aggravate the intensity. The soft yellow fruits are present in the background, but the hops start politely making their way to the front in with gentlemanly determination. Their resinous quality is suppressed at first, but as they transcend into the finish, their true pine-sap colors reveal themselves exponentially over the course of several minutes given the opportunity.
M - Relatively gentle carbonation allows the weight of that hazy orange body to bear itself down upon your palate. Although the hops lend a clean, fresh impression, the malts definitely make Gubna a mouthy, chewy affair. In a way, the chewiness works with the slight gasoline burn on the finish, and I also appreciate the substance it brings to the brew; but ultimately, it results in a imbalance that seems confused in its objective.
D&O - Let's get one thing straight: It aint a bad brew. I could happily quaff this stuff on a random daytime drinking binge, and it would certainly expedite my objective. However, for a more cognizant session, it's difficult to ignore the frustrating disparity between subtlety and brashness. All in all: good, but not that good.
(NB. Mouthfeel received a 4, and S a 3.5 purely to average the scores out - 3.75 is a fairer rating for both)

Amber color with a decent head and lace.
Aroma of floral hops, malts, stinky hops and hints of fruit.
Taste was sweet, mild bitterness, malts and an odd taste I could not really describe to you.
Medium body and carbonation.

355 ml can, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.0%. Orange colour, moderate off-white head. Lovely aroma of piney hops, smells like a pine forest, also some fruity notes (oranges). The flavour is a massive attack of fruity and piney American hops, fairly light bodied and dry for its strength.

Wonderful aroma, thick clumpy lacing. Taste is oranges and other citrus, a hint of cough syrup sweetness, with a smidge of alcohol warmth. Be careful, this one will sneak up on you.
