The pour is clear copper in color. Doesn't look like much body as light easily shines through, and really, it's a bit light even for the style. However, you can describe the head as gorgeous from its semi-cascading formation to its lucious bright white head. Nice retention and if you can wait long enough, you're given a beautiful lacing.
Faint fruit teases the nose. Pineapple and even some darker fruit flavors join in. Plenty of malt for balance, some pilsner in there somewhere.
Little from the nose makes it to the tongue, save the hops. None of the dark fruit or even the pineapple shows up. It's all malt and whichever hops are used for bittering. The taste isn't bad, it's just nothing special and not what I think of when I think of American Pale Ales. Pale ale yes, but not so much American as there is no citrus in the taste.
It's very bitter. Not much complexity as bitter is all it is from beginning to end. It's not quite IPA bitter, but with the lack of balance in the feel, it feels like one. More on the lighter side of body than medium, it feels a bit loose and watery.
I really wanted to like this because it's the first time I've seen it in Indiana and I've heard lots about it, but I just don't care for it. It's not bad, but it's not really good either, just a middle of the road pale ale that thousands of breweries seem to make. Nothing special.
