A: Copper color, high carbonation, about a two finger head. The beer is clear.

S: The smell is more sweet than an IPA. There are notes of pineapple and a nutty caramel smell that comes under it. Very nice smell.

T: Grapefruit, roasted nuts, pineapple, some hints of caramel. Leaves a bitter after taste but not an unpleasant one.

M: Light bodied beer with a dry and bitter finish.

O: This is a great beer to have which has a very well balanced out taste characters. Very good to have with a couple of buddies or when you're looking to relax.

I am drinking this beer and watching the film Fargo. This beer reminds me of William H. Macy, it is warm, sweet, familiar. It has a large hop presence like that of Macy's ears. It is slightly bitter like a first reaction to Steve Buscemi's visage.

I like it but wouldn't buy it again.

One of the "1001 Beers You Must Taste Before You Die" -- #36 of the ones I've reviewed here.

I've recently been going through a "microbrew in cans" phase, and apparently Dan's Pale Ale is the grandfather of 'em all, the one that started the trend. It's a pretty good example of the style. Pours a bronzey brown that throws a fluffy, swiftly disappearing head. Typical American Pale Ale nose of biscuits and grapefruit peel, with maybe a hint of spice lurking somewhere in the background there, like the grapefruit peel had been pureed and mulled somewhere along the way. Very creamy, almost "chewy" mouthfeel, again I think typical of this sort of style. Hits you hard up front with an aggressive shot of grapefruit peel and spice (maybe a little grapefruit juice, actually), with a bitter lasting finish at the end.

Quite nice. This is a style that it's easy to get mediocre with, there's a lot of "okay" American Pale Ales out there. While I wouldn't call this a timeless classic or anything, this is certainly better than "okay".

I get this in the can often (From the Brevard NC brewery, not Colorado, different water) so this review surmises the beer across multiple tastings. As with many APAs it is best when fresher. Recently I have been getting it as fresh as one week and as old as 1.5 months. This is a great daily session drinker. 8.99 sixer here. Pours excellent head, 1-1.5inchs. Nose is mango when fresh more hops and malt when old; taste is similar. full on fresh grapefruit and bitter hops when a nice sweet fresh hop middle and then some dryness at the end. Compared to Zombie Dust, Pliny the Elder and Heady Topper it is not on that level; but that is a hard level to achieve and I rate this beer consistantly just below them. I highly recommend especially when fresh. Check the date on the bottom of the can.
