A big focus on hops lead to a bright and floral introduction to the palate as Oskar Blues normal hoppy tilt encounters the complexity of Belgian yeast. Straying from their comfort hoppy zone, IceyPA becomes an IPA with a little extra.

This Belgian-esque IPA kicks off with a bright citrus perfume, saturating with bright orange, tangerine and nectarine along with the strong perfume of coriander. Underneath all that lies a modestly hazed golden ale that fights through a sturdy foam cap in search of tantilizing sweetness of angel-food cake, honey and biscuit.

As the middle palate unfolds, a plethora of fruit reveal themselves: pink grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, pineapple, mango, gooseberry, banana, kiwi and passionfruit trek across the tongue; but balanced with a bitter and spicy tandem. Clove, white pepper, vinous acidity, bubblegum and soft soap counter the fruit and trailing sweetness before finishing grassy and bitter like cilantro, fresh pine shavings, citrus peels and grass clippings.

Medium bodied and brightly spicy on the palate, the ale trends spicy and bitter but never achieves the dryness that either premiere Belgian beers achieve or the bitter dominant taste that great IPA achieves. The "Belgian" fermentation robs the American hops of much of their floral character while the heavy fruit and spice balance reigns supreme, trailing with citrus perfume and light detergent.

Served On-Tap @ OB Lyons

A — Pours a clear but slightly hazy yellow color into the glass, there's a night white colored head that settles and leaves behind some quality spots of lacing.

S — Smell is nicely pungent, strongly focused on hops and a little bit of a wheat malt base is apparent.

T — Taste is nice, lots of fresh hop notes of lemon, pine, citrus, and melon, balanced upon a lightly present wheat malt.

M — Medium bodied, lingering and tasty finish.

O — Pretty good overall, I would have it again.
