It’s hard to believe that I last passed this location nearly 25 years ago, long before I could legally drink beer. I find myself back on the road to Estes Park, and it’s hard to believe that this is where Oskar Blues started, and help popularize craft beer sold in cans. It also worked as a perfect lunch stop for me and my dad.

A bit of a time warp inside, but with activity inside and a vibe that says live music plays here often. A small bar with a handful of seats in the main restaurant, plus two additional rooms which were sealed off at the time.

Solid selection of beers; I expected more Oskar Blues beers to be available like I remembered at the Tasty Weasel. less than a dozen taps and about 7-8 were Oskar Blues, plus some guest beers from Breckinridge and Great Divide. Standard shaker pints for glassware, however I must say having a fresh Dales Pale Ale is something special. To the beers, there’s very hearty food, big burgers and delicious nachos.

As a food and beer place, makes a good stop at the foothills of the Rockies, as well as seeking out the roots of Oskar Blues.

I only realized after the fact that this was their original location, so I've readjusted my expectations after the fact, but thankfully before I put my review to word (and score). With that in mind, it now makes more sense to me that this location is rather small and well-worn.

Starting primarily as a blues bar with southern grub before becoming the progenitors of canned craft beer, the space is fairly intimate, with a floor that's obviously meant to be able to be cleared for live bands and dancing. It's a bit of a sticky-surfaced joint with some grungy menus that could use a cleaning, but the beers are still as top notch as they've ever been, including some new hazies that were surprisingly solid, while service was attentive yet unobtrusive. I was, however, surprised to see a lack of either canned or kegged barrel aged offerings.

This is one that I've gone to a few times, since even before they were big and even before I was big on craft beer. They are not only great but have aged and expanded gracefully. A relatively sprawling place with multiple bars and an area downstairs with some games. There is a dining area next to the core bar where they regularly have music, as well as a place to buy shirts, stickers, etc. The food (what little I've tried) is solid, the service is friendly and the beers are obviously very good to excellent. I like that they separate their menu into core offerings and special/collabration/experimental stuff. A great place to stop for a drink when visiting Lyons or passing through.

Casual, laid back, side of the road almost divey bar feel without the grossness of a dive bar. Tucked away in the mtns, a great place to stop on the way home to the front range

Vibe — OK so I can only speak for the basement portion of the building, so take this with a grain of salt, the upstairs areas may be vastly different and superior. The basement portion is dimly lit, smells of old beer, sweat, cigarette smoke and fried food. So not great. The main bar is large with ample seating and a nice enough display of the taps.

Quality — OK overall, the beers are all well made and vastly outweigh the basement environment.

Service — Good, prompt, attentive, knowledgeable and straightforward. Seemed to have a good rapport with other customers in the bar area.

Selection — A bit of a shorter list than I expected, I think there was only a total of 10-12 taps, if even that. All the regulars were on — Dales, IPA, G'Knight, Chub, Ten FIDY, Yella, etc... There were a couple extra taps of draft only stuff, but not a whole lot of special / brewery only offerings. Oh well, the core is great, and the extras were good as well, just somewhat expected to see more like Death By Coconut, or Java Fidy, or ANY of the extensive list of beers listed on this website offered on tap. I can buy cans of the year round stuff in almost any store, would have liked to have seen a more in depth list of offerings. Who knows, maybe those offerings are reserved for the Longmont Tap Rooms?

Food — Fairly limited menu, mostly standard bar fare, burgers, wings, sandwiches, etc... Our food came out quickly and tasted fine, wouldn't come back just for the food though, but then again who would?

Overall — Good overall, a pretty diverse space, and fun to see where it all began. I've been drinking OB as long as I can remember, it's always fun to go back and revisit the roots.

was here yesterday afternoon and as always had a great time
oskar blues is the cornerstone of lyons co and always a great stop on the way up to the mtns or after a bike ride or hike
vibe is sort of hokey americana music yesterday was terrible some sort of emo pandora station
quality of beer is excellent my wife and i had G'night which is always solid, the one nut brown and the new IPA
enjoyed all 3 beers they had about 10 on tap
service was excellent and attentive
selection of beers and food was great
we had hot wings, fried pickles fish and chips and a silo burger all were outstanding portions are huge
we sat in the main dining area but there is seating outside and downstairs as well as at the bar and they often have live music and they have an arcade as well.
hard to beat, always a good time

Went to the barrel aged 1050 release, which is a truly awesome beer! Great variation of other beers, very cool hang out (atmosphere) except for the 80s hip-hop music playing, but no food, other than peanuts! Waitstaff was very cool, very knowledgeable, and very friendly!
