A mid-sized group of beer lovers took a detour from Left Hand to Avery via Oskar Blues… and we were damn glad we did.

Oskar Blues is easy to find off of the main road in Lyons, the parking is barely adequate as the lot is shared with many other businesses. Upon entering there is a choice of going downstairs or upstairs… we head up and sat near the bar. First thing I did was check the taps. Yep, Ten Fiddy was on as was Gordon as well as a Barrel-Aged Gordon plus other goodies and Bud (?). Ten Fiddy was great and so was the Barrel-Aged Gordon. But we all knew that going in. ;-) While there wasn’t many taps there was great quality and a good enough range.

The atmosphere is bar-ish with a good helping of Cajun restaurant and jazz/blues hall. The mix is good. There was nothing overly special about the atmosphere but that is fine, it was “merely” a down-to-earth brewpub. I liked it. I found it laidback and friendly.

Our waitress was pleasant and attentive, nothing above and beyond but, again, that is fine.

The menu was heavy on Cajun food with pizza and burgers mixed it. The highlight of the menu was the “just one rib” appetizer with full “I’m Gonna Get You Sucka” reference! The rib was tasty, BTW. As was my blue cheese and ground beef pizza. Everybody liked the food.

Prices seemed good across the board.

IMO, this is one of the top 5 brewpubs I’ve been to; Free State, Town Hall, Great Dane, and Thunderhead all make the cut along with Oskar Blues. Each place has world class beer, good if not great food served in an atmosphere that is not stuffy or too restaurant-ish.

Next time I am in CO I am going to Lyons no matter what. Highly Recommended.

Vibe — OK so I can only speak for the basement portion of the building, so take this with a grain of salt, the upstairs areas may be vastly different and superior. The basement portion is dimly lit, smells of old beer, sweat, cigarette smoke and fried food. So not great. The main bar is large with ample seating and a nice enough display of the taps.

Quality — OK overall, the beers are all well made and vastly outweigh the basement environment.

Service — Good, prompt, attentive, knowledgeable and straightforward. Seemed to have a good rapport with other customers in the bar area.

Selection — A bit of a shorter list than I expected, I think there was only a total of 10-12 taps, if even that. All the regulars were on — Dales, IPA, G'Knight, Chub, Ten FIDY, Yella, etc... There were a couple extra taps of draft only stuff, but not a whole lot of special / brewery only offerings. Oh well, the core is great, and the extras were good as well, just somewhat expected to see more like Death By Coconut, or Java Fidy, or ANY of the extensive list of beers listed on this website offered on tap. I can buy cans of the year round stuff in almost any store, would have liked to have seen a more in depth list of offerings. Who knows, maybe those offerings are reserved for the Longmont Tap Rooms?

Food — Fairly limited menu, mostly standard bar fare, burgers, wings, sandwiches, etc... Our food came out quickly and tasted fine, wouldn't come back just for the food though, but then again who would?

Overall — Good overall, a pretty diverse space, and fun to see where it all began. I've been drinking OB as long as I can remember, it's always fun to go back and revisit the roots.

was here yesterday afternoon and as always had a great time
oskar blues is the cornerstone of lyons co and always a great stop on the way up to the mtns or after a bike ride or hike
vibe is sort of hokey americana music yesterday was terrible some sort of emo pandora station
quality of beer is excellent my wife and i had G'night which is always solid, the one nut brown and the new IPA
enjoyed all 3 beers they had about 10 on tap
service was excellent and attentive
selection of beers and food was great
we had hot wings, fried pickles fish and chips and a silo burger all were outstanding portions are huge
we sat in the main dining area but there is seating outside and downstairs as well as at the bar and they often have live music and they have an arcade as well.
hard to beat, always a good time

Went to the barrel aged 1050 release, which is a truly awesome beer! Great variation of other beers, very cool hang out (atmosphere) except for the 80s hip-hop music playing, but no food, other than peanuts! Waitstaff was very cool, very knowledgeable, and very friendly!

The Lyons restaurant is an interesting place for sure. Service was fine, selection left some to be desired, laid back atmosphere and half-baked decor was a nice change of pace though. Great spot to drop by for a cold Dale while on the road.

Stopped here between Rocky Mountain N.P. and Boulder. Dale's Pale and a few other varieties are available in Wisconsin, so I knew the beer would be good. The food was awesome, reasonable, and the service was great. Worth the twenty minute drive from Estes Park.
