growldog from joe canals on rt 1 woody bridge
whoa dog.. about a 3 finger 70s white muff happening here, soap and it barely moves when I shimmy the glass 'round, hazy straw with some lazy dna strands of carbonation writhing up the top in some weird summation of perpetual motion, retention and lacing are currrazy nice here, solid brew in the looks dept.
hmm.. definitely a bit different, sort of a caramel-y pine ? if there is such a thing? very heavy peach tones... this is throwing me for a DIPA... but after all the hop nukes passing this nose it is cool to see (smell?) something unique, I can not say I love it but it is different.
this is not a palette destroyer but there is some really nice fresh hop bitters directly on the tongue, but it does not leave the huge back of the mouth bitters like most DIPAs... which makes this a touch tamer (as is the ABV). it drinks pretty light but after a few swigs the ABV does make an appearance with some warming in the ole beer storage tank attached to this here torso, this seems to gain bitterness as you go on, it is in the pine variety which can almost border on pinesol flavor .. but it just dodges that bullet, the carbonation is a bit lacking in the overall presentation in the mouth which makes this not as drinkable as some DIPAs...
the bitterness is here, but it is missing something, not bad at all but not great.

Got a keg from the brewery for the house.
Poured from the kegerator, deep opaque golden orange. Prominent white head that holds up well and leaves fantastic lacing throughout.
Nose is dominated by assorted tropical fruits; mango, peach, pineapple, and tangerine come to mind. A bit of piney hop mid-nose. Malty backbone is detectable but not too strong. So far so good.
Taste follows aroma more or less. Definitely getting peach and mango. A bit more pine in the taste than the smell. Again the malt is there to kind of just say hi. Very well balanced IPA.
A bit thin on the palate, but sticky. Aftertaste is piney that lingers nicely. Carbonation is great.
I had this beer for the first time right after I turned 21. I don't remember caring for it. But today this beer is a definite winner. Very good Jersey IPA, I think this is is a runner up to Head High.
