Like all things truly Jersey, 077XX makes the most in balancing through its accentuation of extremes. Inspired by the west coast IPAs we love, we added a thump of hops to a dynamic malt profile and chose a yeast to drive these two further than they wanted to go. Throw our water into this mix and you will find dank green resinous hops popping over orange, mango and papaya aromas, with just enough sweetness of body to make the long finish a pleasure to have around. Drink 0’Dub when your night matters.

From 10/08/11 notes. I was at a bar in Red Bank (forget the name but it's relatively new and a block from Count Basie Theatre) with a pretty good beer selection, and noticed a tap handle that said "Carton Brewing Company". Having never heard of the brewery, I began talking to the bartender who told me it was a new local brewery in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, and that this was their Double IPA, and that it was "about 8%". I asked him if it had a specific name, but he said it was just sold to them as their Double IPA. Served in a pint glass.a

a - Pours a murky orange amber color with one finger of fluffy white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of citrus hops, tropical fruits, fruity malts, oranges, and light pine hops. Loads of fresh citrus hops and tropical fruits, and really fresh an enjoyable.

t - Tastes of citrus hops, lemon, oranges, fruit malts, and light tropical fruits again. Not quite as hoppy as the nose, but still very enjoyable.

m - Medium bodied DIPA and moderate carbonation. No real bitterness, and pretty easy to drink.

o - Overall I really liked this DIPA, especially the nose. Lots of fresh hops and fruit, I'd love to have this one again. The next day I saw a different Carton beer at the growler station of a local beer store, and wish I had grabbed it. Not sure how long this brewery has been around for yet, but a great start and I look forward to trying more beers from them.

EDIT: The name of this beer is "077XX" and the ABV is 7.9% ABV.

Why doesn't this beer have a cult following yet. I got this in a trade so I could add New Jersey to my list. Little did I know I was getting this tremendous fruity, dank, hop bomb. The nose on this is amazing I poured a 16oz can into a glass and could smell it when I walked across the room. Fruit and floral scents carry through the air. The taste is just as good but there is a real dank taste at first then it gets sweet and fruity. This is truly amazing.

Super fresh. Poured golden amber (with predominantly yellow hue in the light). Mango and peach notes dominate over a clean, crackery malt profile. Nose has hints of earthy and piney resins coming through. On the palate, these piney and earthy flavors hit BIG off the jump. Hints of the peach and mango come through in the aftertaste. All balanced by hearty bitterness. Some alcohol comes through on this one. Clean, slightly oily/coating mouthfeel characteristic of a DIPA. Appropriate. Unique East Coast DIPA, easily crushable, but worth savoring. Seek out Carton.

Been trying to find this one and got it at the Edison ale house in Newark. Overall a very sneaky brew. Don't know what the ibus are but very unassuming and very easy drinking for 7.85 percent. Really good but subtle at the same time. Would love to find this in cans. Good shit!

Employing some of the more sexy hops on the market, making an easy drinking, high gravity hop bomb seems to be easy nowadays. Though not as easy as it seems, the Carton Brewers have channeled their inner Heady and given us a juicy, tropical and bitter creaminess for which the taste buds simply yearn.

Bright and beautiful, its golden straw hues highlight is calming carbonation through a slightly diffused glow. Building a head of lather and froth, the scent rolls onto the nose with white grapefruit, under-ripened orange, mango, passionfruit, pineapple, gooseberry and lime. Its honied sweet taste coats the tongue and brings on a light candied and caramelized taste before the hops really go to work upon the palate.

What's short and sweet of malts early, all of that is short lived as the hops crash the party and cast the sweetness aside. But its that blend of citrusy oranges and grapefruit that meld with the softer tropical fruit flavors for a sensation of sherbet or cream sickle only to be accompanied with bitter grasses, herbs, verbena and citrus peel.

Creamy, malty-dry and clean- the medium-light ale trends drier and drier as the hop oils build and the alcohol evaporate the tongue. What's left is a fond memory of simple citrus on the palate.

Appearance - Pours a solid light gold almost orange.

Smell - complex hop aroma with hints of citrus and pine on the end.

Taste - Light upfront hops start to come in strong as they have a very strong finish lingering on the palate afterwards. Pine and Citrus linger.

Mouthfeel - Light mouthfeel froward then going into more of a fully hopped flavor mouthfeel into the finish.

Overall- I sat down and compared heady topper to 07XX. both amazing i their own way. Carton makes some amazing beers and they are to watch out for in the future, so happy they are in my home state!
