Having decided they had something to contribute to the very exciting conversation going on in craft brewing, cousins Chris and Augie Carton teamed up and started Carton Brewing. In the seashore community where they were born and raised, the Carton boys found a turn-of-the-century red brick warehouse and adapted it to accommodate a state-of-the-art Newlands Systems 15 barrel brew house. 6 E. Washington Avenue was turned into an independent craft brewery and their hats were in the ring. Applying a passion for stimulating flavor to inspiration found all around them, they set about their goal: to make tasty beer in the place their tastes were formed.

Brewery Tours on Wednesdays and Thursdays 5-8PM, Fridays 4-8PM, Saturdays 12-8PM, and Sundays 12-5pm. The entrance to the brewery is 6. E. Washington Ave, street parking is available.

Great place, super small but that doesn't get in he way if having a good time. Sooner than later Augie & crew will need to expand into a bigger space

A quirky little place that isn’t easy to find. Check out the website before heading there. We didn’t have to do the tour they “require” but we did have to follow the sampler format they utilize. The process itself is a minor annoyance, but the staff was very helpful and nice, and patient in describing it to the customers. It didn’t bother us this trip but does require more time at the service counter.

There were a couple more mundane beers, but mostly solid to truly interesting offerings. The choices included low and high ABV, pale ales and stouts, and a few odds and ends like a lager, a gose, and a wit - 18 overall. We had a relaxed afternoon enjoying the beers and would return again if we are nearby.

It's been a few years since we stopped here. A little unrecognizable with no signage to speak of. Was told since it was across the street from a school they could not put up prominent signs.
Did the tour which was run of the mill. The serving room upstairs was a bit crowded. You get a 4 ounce type juice glass and four pours for $5.00.
Could tell there were some regulars at the bar and the bartender gave them all his conversation and attention.

Carton is one of the staple breweries of the Jersey Shore, and has certainly done earned to that title. Do they have unbelievable NEIPAs, hoppy Pale Ales or dense Milk Stouts that blow you away consistently? No, but they're by far one of the most consistent all-around breweries I've ever step foot in.

I visited Carton Brewing Company on the first truly warm day of Spring in 2018. The brewery is located only a very short walk away from the Atlantic Ocean (or more correctly, Sandy Hook Bay) in Atlantic Heights, NJ. If you visit, the modest sized, serving area is upstairs and had eight offering on tap with perhaps another half dozen prepackaged available for purchase.

On the Saturday afternoon I visited, six, 4 oz (118 ml) tastes were offered for $5, but note a 4 pack of Sundae went for $20. The vibe is hip and youthful (several dogs and babies), but the room was not big enough and it was quite crowded. The whole servicing space and bar are fairly small for the crowd and one will wait for service a bit, although the mood is convivial, cooperative, and really just looking to have fun.

Definitely worth a look if you are in the area or from nearby, but I might the buy prepackaged beer at a retail store next time.

Located in a residential area across from a school. Why are so many breweries located near schools....What does that say about children? The building is small and old but has a cool vibe. The staff were both super helpful and super friendly. My wife and I had a great time. Add to that the excellent beer and you have a winner if you are looking for a beer destination in New Jersey.

A little gem hidden away (literally) in Atlantic Highlands, NJ. Really had to look to find it but once I did. . .

Took the 10 minute, 1 room tour (mandatory) before heading upstairs to the taproom. Small, but quaint, and very crowded for a Sunday evening. My flight was enjoyable, as were the staff. Everyone was very friendly.

Would definitely go back.

have been a few times only to grab cans

first off, i live roughly an hour from Carton and getting there was easy besides finding the final destination. the first time i went i drove by it twice before i realized which building it was. it's right off the main street and has no signs or anything to point out that it's Carton Brewing. good job of hiding in plain sight

cool little place, great beer and super nice people

Finally managed to get out to Carton to check it out. The tour was short and sweet which was nice. The taproom was pretty rad, They had an old Dead Kennedy's vinyl playing on the turntable. The selection was good, the service was good too. It's a cool spot! Glad I finally made it there.

Very cool somewhat out of the way location but 100% worth the drive from central PA. Great selection of well crafted beers on draft when I went with 077Nelson being a standout. Boat really surprised me with its flavor. Service is outstanding and super fast. I highly recommend stopping by if you can.

Upstairs bar/ taproom is well lit, plenty of seating. Randall goes often as well. Newer brew house in back is top of the line. Older brew house up front still houses the experimental small batch cart. Tucked away off the main road is tight parking but overall great place.
