Dark body, creamy bronze head. Roasted nutty smell. Delicious for a porter. Porters are very hit or miss with me. But this porter I found to be deceptively light and easy drinking. Very dark almost chocolate taste on the back end. Really great porter especially with the great appirizers they have at civil life (where I had this beer)

Pours a black color. 1/4 inch head of an off-tan color. Good retention and good lacing. Smells of roasted malt, sweet malt, hop, hint of yeast, and a hint of earthy malt. Fits the style of an English Porter. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of roasted malt, sweet malt, caramel malt, hint of oatmeal, hops, and yeast. Overall, more malty than hoppy; good appearance, aroma, and body.

Poured into a half-pint from the cask at the brewpub.
Pours a nice deep brown/black color with some mahogany edges when held up tot eh light there is a bit of a creamy light tan head. There are some bigger bubbles sprinkled around. The head retains pretty well and sticks slightly to the sides of the glass.
Aroma of toasted and roasty malts starts things off. Nice coffee notes with some slight smoke. Then there i some mild undertones of malty sweetness. There are some caramel hints and definitely very nice chocolatey notes in the nose. However, these play second fiddle to the nice burnt notes.
The flavor follows the nose really well except that the roasty coffee notes aren't overwhelming. There is some roast to the taste to start off but then some nice chocolatey notes and some slight bready sweetness comes in and balances the roast out. Very well done and layered perfectly. Simple yet delicious. The sweetness of the malts plays perfectly with the roast of the malts. The body is nice and slick with a nice medium fullness to it.
Civil life does classic styles well. This is a very good example of a porter. Nice roast and perfect sweetness to balance the roast. Very drinkable as well.
