The other reviews have covered the Hopleaf very well. I live less than a mile from the place, so it's become my default bar, so I thought I'd add some info that visitors might find useful:
1. It's easy to get to -if you have access to the Red Line. If you are staying in the Loop for business/family/vacation, but don't have access to a car, fear not! For $2.25 each way, an elevated train will take you to a stop about a half mile from the Hopleaf. You'll have to hoof it from there, but it's a pretty easy walk through a decent neighborhood. Use Google Maps, enter the addresses, then select "by public transit" to get detailed directions.
2. It's not easy to get a seat. It's pretty crowded on weeknights. You're definitely going to have to wait for a table on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday nights. To get a seat at the bar on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, I'm pretty sure that someone has to leave it to you in their will.
3. They have a good website. Since I started checking it about a year ago, the draft and bottle menus on their site have always been very up-to-date. Not only that, but they include prices and ABV, which often helps me to formulate my plan of attack.
***I gave an extra "vibe" point because there are no TVs.
