This one was a real gusher. Poured an orange / golden color. Not much head retention. I can smell the funk, but the smell overall is underwhelming. Taste is solid, if unspectacular. I can pick up the melon notes, which means they are fairly prevalent, as I'm not typically good at picking up anything subtle. Overall, this beer is good, not great. It does have a great name though!

part of the all funked up series and another exorbitantly expensive but unique and cool beer, wild and bretty, done with honey and cantaloupe i think, multigrain and wood aged and interesting, at first maybe not what i was hoping for, but it grew on me a lot as it warmed up and we sipped on it, and the melon part comes out more and more. a cool beer, a cool idea, and nice execution, i will always be happy to pay for that (or in this case let me generous neighbor pay, but still...). a share or three darker than i expected, not quite amber but deep orange for sure, not all the way clear, and crazy heady and bubbly in the glass and on the palate. honey is minimal at first, instead rye or spelt or something rise up, grainy more than anything, wheaty and rich and full, with some sweetness from the fruit but not a ton of flavor, it seems largely fermented out with the honey, but as the temperature comes up so does the flavor, waxy polleny floral honey to me, its there all the way through. the melon is weird, not as natural as i thought it might be, but thats maybe what proves it is natural, notes of bile and composting fruit pulp. not orange ripe melon, but it must change in fermentation. all the grain makes it interesting, and the funky brett is awesome, really developed and a new level of mature for these guys in my experience. the carbonation is also enormous which is cool. overall an expensive and neat beer, not quite elegant to me, but distinctive and good. im sure this will cellar like a boss too. neat use of honey!

Bottle: Poured a clear golden color ale with a nice foamy head. Aroma of floral honey with subtle melon notes is pleasant. Taste is a mix of floral honey mix with some strong melon notes. Body is average with good carbonation. Hard for me to say I like it since I am not a big fan of melon but base beer seems to have lots of potential.

A 750ml bottle with no bottled on or best before date that I could see. A slow gusher when opened. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.
Appearance: A slightly hazy golden orange colour with a two finger white head that dissipated fairly quickly to a settled thin layer and sparse lacing.
Aroma: Light peppery spice, hints of mustiness, some tropical peach and orange juice with an interesting melon-y honeydew and cantaloupe in the background.
Taste: Quite sweet honey, cantaloupe, honeydew, blood orange with hints of funk and pepper spice.
Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied with moderate prickly carbonation.
Overall: This was nice and interestingly different with the melon aroma and flavours. It’s actually great for summers, but I would have preferred it in a small bottle as it is quite sweet.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a nice golden bronzed orange color with a fairly large white head to start but eventually leveled to slim quarter finger. The lacing was slightly there and it slid into the beer. The smell took a light peppery spice and added in a nice melon (honeydew?). Light honey enters in over top of a sort of an icy/somewhat refreshing quality of light funky but not overbearing lemon. The taste took all of the previously mentioned flavors and added in a light white grape flavoring. She’s slightly sour around the edges but not overbearing, acceptable. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a slight refreshing crisp carbonation running over my tongue. Sessionable? Perhaps, slightly. Overall, this was a pretty good saison to have again. The nice somewhat refreshing qualities in the smell and taste make for a fairly nice night cap or make a nice dinner with a steak.

The beer is light orange gold in color. The liquid is moderately cloudy, and the head is white and rocky. The bottle gushed gently upon opening. I’m getting more and more melon in the aroma as the beer warms. There’s also a mildly medicinal pale malt sweetness. Sticky, sugary fruit flavors - mango, guava, pineapple. Mild yeasty earth and spice. It almost smells like fruit-flavored candy. Taste is medium sweet for a saison but dries out some in the finish with moderate earthy bitterness. Again, lots of fruit in the taste, but there’s also more of that oddball medicinal flavor. It might be the melon but the mix with the malt sweetness is a bit off for me. Mouthfeel is a bit sticky and the sweetness is bordering on cloying, even though it’s fairly light. I think the concept for this beer would have worked better in a smaller package. At 8% abv, everything just feels too sweet and big for what should be delicate fruit and brett complexity. It’s not bad, but things never really come together.

750 ml bottle, not sure exactly how old it is but I've had it about 6 months or so. Served in a Prairie Teku, the beer pours a hazy gold color with about an inch off-white head. The bottle was a gusher as soon as I opened it, so I had to let it sit a while before I poured it into the glass. Head retention and lacing are both good. The brew smells like honeydew melon, apricots, and some bready malt. It tastes like apricots, bready/grainy malt, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, funk and a bit of orange. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's creamy and is well carbonated. The soft carbonation helps make this easy to drink. I thought this was an enjoyable brew, worth a try if you come across a bottle.
