Immaturity once again rears its "tongue-in-cheek" head when minds for fourth graders enter grown men's bodies and a traditional, time-honored European style is is replicated.
Against the Grain's German lager pours mostly bright with straw, but casts the modest of hazes through its golden hues. With steams of carbonation rising from below, those bubbles pop to deliver a delightful bouquet of fresh-baked bread, floral honeysuckle and perfume.
Grainy-sweet to start, the sweetness recedes across the middle palate and the floral and fruity hops turn spicy and bitter. Its balanced taste is even keel while nuances of apple, lemon and light match-stick sulfur play delicately behind. With the hops taking a slight lead before finish, a fragrant soap character can be tasted.
Crisp and clean, yet firmly malted- the beer finishes with a dry cracker-like crispness with a sharp and peppery hop bite. With herbal lemongrass and hay washing over the aftertaste, its floral hop aromas echoes showcase the noble Tettnanger hops very well.
