Notes/Commercial Description:
An India Pale Ale featuring Nelson Sauvin hops. Named after the Sauvignon Blanc grape, is a variety of hop developed and grown in New Zealand. It has a strong fruity flavor and aroma that is described as resembling white wine, or fresh crushed grapes or gooseberries. Some reviewers of this hop perceive the fruitiness as being very tropical with descriptions including passion fruit, tangerines, and grapefruit. These hops are organic and are about 4 times as expensive as our normal American varieties.

On tap at When Pigs Fly.
In a snifter the beer was an amber color with a small tan head. There was a good deal of lace.

Aroma OK, but a little muted. Citrus and caramel.

Taste a little more assertive. Lots of citrus: grapefruit, lime, tangerine. Caramel malt background.

This was a real hop-forward beer, with big grapefruit taste.

I enjoyed it.

Pours an apricot color with floaties. My chalice looks like a snow globe. Quick snappy bone white froth that will recede in no time.

Big, and I'm not using the word lightly, big on tangerine, orange, melon and then morphing into the realm of tartness of crushed white grapes. A real treat to excite the olfactories. Lips of Faith Le Terroir comes to mind.

Drinking this I get the sense of grapefruit bits and pith. Mild bitterness, hop slickness and pine oil. Light side of malt and then the next sip seems syrupy. Alcohol plays big then the next sip it wanes. Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me and no I'm not smoking a cigar with this. Tart attributes are present and welcomed.

Mouthfeel toward heavy. Creamy with moderate sweetness. Fruit does weigh heavier than the hop. Finishes wet and satiating.

Well I'm glad I got two of these. This first one has me all over the place. Do I dig it or not. Well the second one I will definitely start my session with. This has to be sat with instead of cuurushed. Don't get a lot of AtG here and another surprise to see on the shelf and quite frankly who can resist. Note it comes with a heavy price tag that one would expect to get their minds blown away by and that did not happen with me. I just love trying brewers new endeavors and this does not disappoint. Never had a Gooseberry, please send me some.

22oz bottle into Unibroue Tulip

A- Hazy orange-copper color with short white head and lacing that chunks as it settles.
S - Wow, the smell is awesome. White grapes, grass, slight pine.
T - Grassy hops taste with almost woody-grape vine taste (the Nelson Sauvin Hops).
M- Smooth with good amount of carbination without being too much. Goes down smooth and drink able
O- I'm digging the Nelson Sauvin hops. A good mix of slight pineyness but the white wine finish. Overall a good offering.

With an unfiltered and cloudy body it's almost as if the gold and apricot hue holds a hefty thickness. The head is bright white but took a vigorous pour to build.

The aroma explodes from the glass at first blush but seemed to dissipate quickly. As the nose softened I still detected fresh citrus notes of sour grapefruit, tangerines, lemon rind and orange peel. The malt is satisfactorily present with a caramel malt sweetness and a supporting floral hop cone.

This bottle was quite fresh so the hop dominant flavor was perhaps too powerful for me. This comes across with an abrasive, resiny and oily pine sap. The hops are more floral and earthy than the nose would suggest but as I got farther in my palate began to adapt. The deep pine resin began to yield to a tangerines but I never caught the malt.

The feel is dry, astringent and after the swallow a bit metallic. There's significant warmth but it's not off putting.

This is an interesting and powerful DIPA that may be more suited for the hop head than some one like me who likes the maltier side.
