On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar; Stavanger. Orange to brown colour, small white head. Aroma of peat and beechwood smoked malts, also smoked salt (when you know it’s there). Medium dry flavour, distinct notes of said smoked ingredients. Hints of bourbon barrel in the finish. Not really my cup of tea, but drinkable.

Pours a foggy, golden haze with four fingers of buttery-white head that foam up insanely quick. Head retention is fantastic, with a constant layer of foam always in contact with the liquid. Big rings of lacing left behind. Aroma is bourbon, straw, smoke, peat, and grass. Flavor profile is huge notes of peat, and smoke, with bourbon, and grass laying more in the background. Mouth feel is slightly fizzy, with a medium-thick feel. Overall, a smooth beer with huge notes of peat and smoke. It is a sipper for sure, and quite unique. Tread carefully.
Served in a 12oz snifter from a 22oz bottle.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a hazy orange amber with a fine off-white head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of smoked caramel malt, peat, hints of bourbon; earthy. Flavor is pale and light caramel malt, smoke, mild peat, fruity liquor in the finish with lingering light peaty smoke. Medium bodied with nice creaminess and mouthfeel. A unique take on a rauchbier, with interesting light fruit flavor portion of bourbon without the alcohol burn. The smoke and peat are clear notes, but not overwhelming. A bit mellower than I expected, and deceptively seems mild in flavor at first, but the bourbon and peat reveal themselves during the taste and are supported by the malt, which has light caramel character, but mainly smoked pale malt. The bourbon fruit component is not normally present in rauchbiers and works quite nicely. A different and fun to drink smoked ale.

I cannot see why this beer is rated this low. Great burnt and smokey meat flavor almost like BBQ sauce without the sweetness. The barrel is present but does not dominate the beer. I enjoyed it.

June 2014 release; drank 6/18/14 @ the Yarchives.
Poured from the bottle into a glass.
Dull orange murkiness.
Nice off-white head; decent lace.
Smoke & fresh ham nose.
Medium thick mouthfeel.
Ham & smoke up front, with hints of honey sweetness. Bold as hell but somehow smooth & easy to drink, with no booze heat. A strong rauch.

Very, very unique rauchbier. Has the bandaid medicinal taste of laphroaig scotch. Mouthfeel is INCREDIBLE and really shines with its heavy, thick presence.
Not my favorite but I'd probably buy again even at the $13.50.
