``Leftovers'' from an Against the Grain tasting at Party Town in Florence, KY. Poured from my growler into a Founders snifter. It pours out black with just a hint of light escaping through the edges, and sports a thin brown lacing on top. The nose is heaven - vanilla, sweet cream, chocolate, and a healthy dose of bourbon.

Full body with tons of rich, sweet flavors. Who needs ice cream and cake with this stuff around? Up front are lots of rich, creamy, toffee-like flavors. Then comes bourbon, oak, vanilla, milk chocolate, more toffee, even some hazelnut for good measure. If this stuff had even a whiff of coffee-like bitterness, I might just blow a load in my pants. I don't know how these guys made this stuff. It's like they captured all the great flavors and character of bourbon, but there's no alcohol burn or heat at all, just enough warmth on the finish to enrich the flavor. I can't believe this stuff is 13% ABV. It's so damn drinkable, it's frightening. Sticky-sweet chocolate, candied flavor lingers on the finish.

Confession time - I have a major sweet tooth. Therefore, to me, this is simply Heaven in a glass! The rich, malty flavors and milky sweetness inherent to this style perfectly suit bourbon barrel aging. In my opinion, this beer can hold its own flavor-wise with just about anything out there. KBS, BCBS, whatever. BRING IT ON BABY! This stuff will pass the ``Pepsi Challenge'' with anything you want to pit it against. I predict it won't be a secret for much longer.

Postscript - I also had a chance to try a coconut version of this. It too is seriously good!

Deep dark opaque brown in color with a small khaki colored head. Aromas are butterscotch, sweet creamy cocoa, leather, vanilla, berries, caramel, a touch of liquor, and faint woodiness. Flavors are sweet, smooth, and lengthy. Lactose sweetness, milk chocolate, cocoa, dark chocolate, and a pile of sweet syrup soaked drippy miscellaneous purple fruit. Big flavorful ball of sweet fruity chocolate swimming over caramel, vanilla and alcohol. No overwhelming bourbon in aroma and flavor but it is present. Mouthfeel is excellent. Very smooth, fluid, soft, a touch of fine grittiness. This is fairly easy to consume given its size...

Pours a near black color with a small dense brown head that settles into a light ring.

The aroma is sweet. Light roasted malt scent with a hint of anise. Mellow caramel under current. Slight acidic twang.

The taste is of a moderate roast, has more bite than in the aroma. Lots of sweet notes going on. Big caramel and milk sugars. Light bourbon with a tart dark berry action. Some bitter chocolate in the finish. Reminds me of BCBS but not as sweet and boozy.

Nice full chewy body. Soft carbonation with a sticky finish. Slight bitterness and acidity in the finish. ABV is well hidden.

A good barrel aged stout. Quite sweet but has nice mellow flavors.

Gorgeous pour with jet black color and not a tone of light seeping on the edge. Stiff thick head was brown in color and did I mention stiff and thick.

The scent was vivid and telling with thick chocolate, fruity coconut, maple syrup, caramel malt, Graham cracker and roast coffee.

The taste followed suit but with bigger and thicker notes. Strong milk chocolate was followed by maple syrup, caramel, toffee, Graham cracker and finally coffee. The bourbon was more an essence as it permeated the feel but enlivened the taste. Oakey tastes held the backdrop and coconut finished it through.

Overall, this is Kentucky's finest beer! Bottle this and ship it nation wide because it's fantastic.

Reviewing the 70K from Against The Grain Brewery out of Louisville, Kentucky. This is the imperial version of their 35K milk stout, aged for an extended period of time in Angel's Envy.

Score: 94

Tap pour served in a snifter glass and enjoyed on 05/24/13 while in Louisville for my best friend's bachelor party. Review is from iPhone notes.

Appearance: Deep brown, maybe black in color (it's 10pm and I'm outside, so color is hard to pin down). Served with a finger-plus of khaki head that settles to a ring around the glass. Good lacing, excellent retention. 4.5/5

Smell: Oak, maple sweetness, bourbon, caramel, hint of vanilla. Some coconut too! Hint of milk chocolate. Touch of booze. 4.25/5

Taste: Maple, vanilla and chocolate flavors primarily. Much less oak and more chocolate in taste than in nose. Caramel maltiness and bourbon flavor towards finish. Has a light coconut flavor in finish, substantially less than was in the nose. Tastes even better than it smells! 4.5/5

Mouthfeel: Medium-full bodied, low carbonation. Super creamy mouthfeel. Nice level of sweetness, but not overly sweet for my tastes. Love the barrel character here, as its complexity-imparting without hitting you over the head with bourbon notes or totally overshadowing the base brew.

Overall: Another home run beer for Against The Grain. It's about on the same level of quality as the Pappy aged Bo & Luke.

Cost: $8 for a 12 oz pour.

@ Ridgewood

Solid black covered with a sticky beige cap and some drippy lacing. Fudgy, slight Bourbony aromas...lactose sweetness, caramel, vanilla, light sherry, oak, perhaps a bit of hazelnut. Huge malty flavor: creamy Bourbon, loads of rich chocolate, charred roast, lactose, and a dark fruity sweetness. Thick, textured mouthfeel that dries out a bit in the finish. A little warming, but certainly not hot by any means. A good, rich barrel-aged stout that leaves the lips sticky with crazy richness.
