This place looks really new. It's tucked in with a cluster of hotels right off the highway. Southern Illinois University is not too far down the road, but I'm not left with the impression this establishment caters to the college kid crowd. Could be wrong, as I don't live here, just passing through.
The store is very clean, has a large 3-bay checkout counter and a drive up window that saw a surprising amount of action, given the fact it was about 10:30AM.
The focus in this store is mostly wine, followed by hard alcohol. The store is well lighted, nicely organized, and is clean. The layout is in nice logical rows. My focus was beer, wanted to specifically see if they had something I can't find at home or in Chicago, but that's a pretty tall order. Specifically, was hoping for a good selection of regionals, being this far south in the state, thought I'd find something you don't normally get closer to Chicago.
The craft beer section amounted to two long rows, 3-4 shelves per row, probably a total length of about 40 feet., the beer cooler opposite the line of shelves had a decent amount of what could be found warm on the shelf, cold in the cooler. There was also a big room in the back that was nothing but stacks and stacks of cases of "college kid beer".
Their selection didn't really do much for me, but I am used to better access and selection in Chicago stores, so given where I was, it was actually pretty good. Two big surprises to me that I give them kudos for... they had Bell's Expedition Stout, Bell's Hell Hath No Fury, and some of the Vertical's from Stone. Smuttynose "Big Beer" Series was well-represented. All the standard Founder's beers were present as well. It was April 2nd, but alas... not KBS!!! Overall, being pretty far removed from a major metro area, I felt the craft beer selection here was pretty good. Worth a stop if passing through, or if new to the area, and craft beers/imports are more your thing.
There were three people working in the store at 10:30AM, I was approached by two of them while I was browsing, asking if I needed any help. Not pushy, not obtrusive, just there to be helpful.
I purchased a bomber of Smuttynose Really Old Brown Dog Ale. Upon checkout, the guy told me their special for the day was 22% off 22 ounce bombers, hey - that was pretty nice! The beer was marked for $5.49, which to me is a good price for a beer in this series, most are $5.99 to $6.49 with some of the more limited ones selling up to $9.99. This is a good beer, so I was thrilled with the discounted price.
I would stop in this store again.

A great little beer store in Southern Illinois. I never know how to rate atmosphere for a simple store, but it is very clean and well organized. Anyway...on to the important stuff.
A cooler with plenty of singles, and six packs. Then there are a few rows of more singles and more six packs on the shelf. Selection is on par with anything in the state outside Binny's and anything in Chicago. It puts any of the crappy beer/liquor stores in Carbondale to shame.
Jolly Pumpkin, everything from Founders and Bell's, some rarer items from Mikeller, Black Xantus. I could name much of the selection, but it does not really matter. You will find something, and most everything that has distribution in the area can be found here. Maybe not the drop dead selection that can be found in Chicago, but really good non the less.
Service is top notch and friendly. They know their stuff, and are happy to strike up a conversation. They will help you carry everything to the car, and informed me this week (the last week in December) is %20 off all craft brews. For my bill that was over $25. Prices without the discount are just a tad high, but not bad at all, or maybe that is just the difference between prices in Southern Illinois and Champaign?
This will be a regular stop of mine when I drive back and forth from Houston to Illinois on occasion. An all around very nice beer store.
