It's kind of nice to see more places like this sprouting up in heretofore beer starved Walla Walla.
From what I read, GL is something of a college bar, something that seemed all the more apparent initially when we arrived (warnings about not leaving your car in the parking lot over night; a sign explaining what would happen if you inadvertently left without closing out your credit card tab). However, at least at 1:15 on a Thursday afternoon, I was pretty happy with the vibe and atmosphere at the GL. The tavern looks as if it's seen a few things in its time, as there is a considerable amount of graffitti carved into the wooden booths and bar area. The place otherwise has something of a divish vibe, but with 6 or 7 sizeable flat screen TV's and walls laden with decorations, posters, signs, etc. Frankly, I rather liked it, and found GL to be a very easy going, laid back spot to hang out with a beer.
As for service, our waitress was very quick and friendly. I got the impression she knew next to nothing about the beer selection (based on some of the questions I asked), but she was more than happy to let me try anything I wanted from the tap list. As for food, I was surprised by how good everything was. The Thai tomato bisque I ordered was flat out excellent, and my friend's fish tacos were quite good as well. The wings were so-so, but the fries that came with them were very good. Frankly, the quality of the food here caught me by surprise... it was much better than I was expecting.
As for the beer selection, it's not bad. They have around 25 beers on tap, though 5 or 6 of those were of the BMC variety. Otherwise, the tap list was pretty good, and included things like Ice Harbor IPA, SN torpedo, etc. It's nothing to get too excited about, but based on previous experiences I've had in Walla Walla, I was more than happy with what was on offer.
While nothing mind blowing, I found the GL to be a very solid place, one that I wouldn't hesitate to visit again. Not bad at all...

Ah the Green Lantern. So many nights of my early 20's spent here. Not as many of my 30's but still a weekly stop.
For sure a college bar feel, but a good mix of the younger and older crowd. Flat screens everywhere, great outdoor patio with fire pit. Pool table and live music can be had usually on a weekly basis.
20+ taps, probably about half devoted to BMC and Craft standards (Stone IPA, Black Butte Porter, etc.) Others are a good rotating selection with at least (2) usually sporting what they refer to as "premium" beers. Last week was No-Li's Wrecking Ball and Rogue's Shakespeare.
The food alone is worth going go for. The Western Burger with its BBQ sauce and onion rings, home made pizzas, or their classic fish tacos are to die for. And I personally feel their Turkey Bacon Avocado Swiss is one of the best things on the menu. The fries are always fresh and hand cut. I can't seem to make it there for lunch, but I hear its outstanding as well.
Service is almost always outstanding. Never have to wait long to get my glass filled, always friendly and pleasant. On the rare occasion something hasn't been right, they have ALWAYS made it right with no complaints or issues.
If you find yourself in Walla Walla, its worth the stop. If you find yourself near Walla Walla, its worth the drive. And if your in Walla Walla and you want to grab a beer, hit me up.
