Four pack of 16 oz cans dated 2/13/14. Initial aroma was stronger fruity hops, with notes of apricot and passionfruit in front of light caramel malt. copper in color, this minimally carbonated can leaves a faint white head that is all but gone the next minute. second whiff offers less hop qualities - perhaps faint lemon - and more malt. on the palate i find this brew to be balanced between the tropical hop attack and the backbone of the malt. full mouthfeel, but the lack of carbonation is disappointing; that explains the penalty in that category. as the beer warms up it gets stickier, although the finish has the bitterness i'd expect from an IPA; i think i'd have to drink the first '14 custom quickly.

Pours from can to pint glass. The beer is darker then expected with a sweet smell to it maybe a bit fruity. The taste is a little too malty forward for me as IPA "s go. Overall mouthful is decent though. I like how these guys r experimenting with their IPA though. Overall I think I would try again, maybe on tap since I'm not to far from the brewery.

Can (canned on 1-24-14) served in Golden Road pint glass.

A - A beautiful beer, really. Copper, finger white head with decent retention, nice lacing.

S - Pine predominates, with citrus in the background. Also pick up on some earthiness. Alcohol intrudes on what is otherwise an incredible aroma.

T - Similar. Pine and resin upfront, with some earthy sweetness to finish out and balance the lingering bitterness. Alcohol is a little heavy.

M - Medium bodied. Perfect for the style.

O - A good IPA (red IPA?) that delivers for the most part. In all, my only complaint with this beer is that the alcohol is fairly apparent and, while not overpowering, is not entirely pleasant.

Kind of like my first date with my baby mama, Raul wasn't exactly expecting all that much, but he became pleasantly surprised.

Malty, coppery, slight caramel... It's smooth enough and doesn't have an oil slick of syrup, so Raul is into that.

Now, in the long run, ol' BM blossomed like a Monarch butterfly; and although 2020 may never get out of its cocoon, it is still decent enough.

Distributor stopped in dropped off a can. Called it a red ipa. Pours darker than a pale but im not impressed with its smell, taste or feel. Another average beer from golden road. Blue can for a red ipa...really smart.

Bottom dated 1/24/14.

A: Pours a clear amberish orange under a 1-inch thick off-white head which fades leaving splotchy lace.

N: Citrus (grapefruit, orange), pineapple, floral.

T: Mildly sweet malts, grapefruit, slightly dank, herbal with resiny pine notes.

M: Moderate body and medium carbonation. Mildly bitter and herbal finish.

O: Another nice one from GR.

A: Surprisingly dark, bronze coloring and a minimal head. Little-to-no visible carbonation.

S: Tangy, hoppy, sweet citrusy notes, mixed with the typical piney hops you'll typical find in a Golden Road offering.

T: Stays true to the aroma -- the piney and citrusy notes come through strongly, with a boozy finish that completes each sip nicely.

M: Warm and filling, while possessing an interesting amount of carbonation (considering that you can't really see it upon pouring).

O: Beyond the noble cause buying this beer goes toward (restoring a stretch of the L.A. river), this is a delicious and rewarding drink. If you're accustomed to Golden Road's offerings, this one should not surprise you -- it's the natural progression from Wolf Among Weeds to a Session IPA. If it's your first, it's likely to have you coming back for more.
