On tap at Golden Road Brewing in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours a clear dark orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, and some herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same along with some slight citrus fruit flavors. There is a mild hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer for what it is but not all that exciting in the world of DIPAs.

The beer pours a surprisingly dark amber color with a small off-white head. Wow, super sweet nose, full of caramel, toffee and sugar. Some hops, but mostly just grass and pine. Fairly vegetal, but maybe a little citrus. The flavor is horribly sweet as well; all caramel and toffee with very little hop character. Mild pine bitterness, grass, and vegetal hops. Not at all a fan of this beer.

I've had this on tap once and decided to grab a growler of it. I couldn't remember it on tap as much so doing this review with the growler portion. It pours amber with a two finger wide white head that recedes fairly quickly.
Smells really nice, it's not unusual and there really isn't a whole lot of hop presence in the smell but it's not bad at all.
Tasting this beer initially makes me think this could be a favorite. But as I keep tasting I realize the hops presence is somewhat more subtle than what I was expecting. And I can taste a bit of the bozzyness. There are some nice caramel and piney notes on the tongue that linger. I'd say that after taste is spot on.
Mouthfeel is fairly pleasant. There nothing amazing nor wrong with it, it actually suits the beer. It's is a bit sticky, but not overly syrupy.
Overall, I've had DIPA's that I've loved so it's really hard to compare this one to the top of my list. Which puts this under, good but average for me.

i haven't read the other reviews since i planned on writing my own, but this is definitely not a double. here at the brewery the board lists surfliner as an ale brewed with hops at 6.5% abv. this beers drinks like a hoppy pale or mild to medium west coast ipa. pale golden in color with a thin head, the brew has an inviting aroma of citric and grassy hops, with a subtle malt backbone. across the palate, i get nice acidity, with more grassy notes and refreshing tanginess. mouthfeel is lighter, but easy. this would be easy to consume in quantity. dry finish, yet not bitter. hope to find this beer around LA.
