my first experience with the latest canned offering from golden road, and i'm still in the weeds as it was. there are qualities i like about this brew, and i certaintainly enjoy some of the folks that work at the tasting room. i'm not totally sold on this as an outstanding representation of the style. pours a hazy orange from the can to pint, but has very little carbonation. i like some of the fruity, floral notes from the hop blend, but it seems to be lacking in the citrus dept. malts start to come through across the palate, offering significant sweetness to the blend; i find this abundance of caramel a bit overpowering for a west coast ipa. finishes with a duel between the malts and some dryness on the very back end. the texture is creamy, and the low carbonation is a turn off to me, personally.
in the end the beer feels a bit sticky for an ipa, even as a double.

I had this on tap at Torrey Pints in Whole Foods, in La Jolla for breakfast at about 1045.
My first impression of this beer was, it looks luscious. The strong smell of pine and hops also helped me come to that impression. The body was a hazy, bright amber/orange. The head was thin and white. Just how I like them. The smell was of pungent hops and pine. It smelled like weed. The taste of this very good IPA was of hops, weed, and pine. It had a nice classic West Coast IPA taste, with weed as the dominating flavor. It had medium carbonation and medium to light density.
Overall, I was impressed with this beer coming out of LA. I will keep my eye out for this in the future.
