One of the worst craft beers I have ever had. Budweiser tastes better than this...I am sure the brewer had good intentions. Maybe I had a bad bottle. No smell, no taste, except for stale bourbon, and very thin.

Exploding head and carbonation, pretty thin feel for the style. Light notes of coffee and some bourbon on the finish. Overall pretty solid but nothing special.

Bottle (not dated):
I have had this on tap at the brewery as well, was unimpressed, so we'll see how the bottle goes...
On a decently vigorous pour, this beer forms a significant head, medium bubbled. Pulls on the head have some bourbon and coconut notes. Color is black and opaque, even a light behind the beer doesn't show through. Lacing is pretty good.
Nose does give the expected bourbon and barrel (equally), but also a tart berry smell that seems a bit strange (but not bad). Some flavored coffee notes also come through with some warmth.
Taste starts a bit thin, and then the bourbon barrel flavors come in. Unfortunately, these seem to be the flavors of the beer, instead of accentuating it. Carbonation is light but comes through stronger due to lack of body, which is light. Overall tastes start with the lightest hint of chocolate malt, replaced by wood which is then accented by some smokey bourbon taste. A warmer beer adds a hint of coconut within the wood taste.
This beer got the bourbon barrel into the taste well, unfortunately the taste of the beer itself seems to be missing. The body kind if gives away this lack of depth. Strangely, I still enjoyed the beer a bit, despite its obvious flaws.

Very balanced yet subtle coffee, chocolate, and vanilla/bourbon notes. There's also some nice light fruit flavors, cherry and rasberry and such. Surprisingly light bodied and drinkable for 9%. Also, it gets an extra .25 for being from my stomping grounds of purcelleville va. Thanks Corcoran, this is a really solid brew.
Oh yeah, 11.99 for a bbl imperial stout? Can't beat that pricing with a stick.
Edit: as it warms, the red berry flavors shine even brighter.
