I love the Midwest, in town for work. This is an average porter from this part of the country, but I still dig it. Plenty of toasty sweetness, a bit of bittersweet chocolate, especially in the swallow. No glass — at the type of Indiana dive bar you don’t ask for a glass. Probably won’t get the opportunity to get this again, but not a bad beer at all. I’d have this in my fridge frequently if it were available in Colorado (still waiting for a great porter in high country).

If this was a blind tasting I would guess brown ale (not that they are wildly different styles). So it looks and tastes like a brown ale and pretty thin at that. Flavor is enjoyable with roasty malt, chocolate and some sweetness. Unfortunately, with the smell and mouthfeel, the flavor is muted rather than enhanced. I find it better than their amber ale and definitely drinkable. I know this is all subjective but I cannot understand the "robust" comments, since to me it drinks like an english brown - sweet, a little acidic dark chocolate, kind of creamy but thin. I suppose I prefer more robust "American porters" like Deschutes and Great Lake's porters.

P: Nice dark opaque brown pot. Not much head at all.
A: Coffee, chocolate, vanilla and smoke.
T: Heavy coffee, sweet chocolate and vanilla.
M: Mild, sweet, clean with some bitterness.
O: One step ahead of a typical Porter. This drinks more like a stout. At 5%, a great drinker.

Smooth roasted coffee and malts with some spice to it. A great light porter.
