Poured from a 22 oz bottle into pint glass in March 2018. There was a bottled-on date on the bottle of 7/15/2014. I drank this within 1 month of purchase.

Appearance: Very dark black with a three finger high tan/brown head. Head is creamy and lasts a very long time, and also leaves a good amount of lacing on the glass, more lacing than most other stouts but not nearly as much as with IPAs.

Smell: Strong burnt aroma of maybe roasted coffee. Also some chocolate and caramel. There is some additional sweetness from malts. Not much hop aroma.

Taste: There is an interesting combination of flavors. There is some burnt coffee flavors. Also some flavor like it was barrel aged in bourbon barrels. Not much chocolate flavors or caramel as with other stouts. There is a little bitterness from hops, but the caramel, chocolate, and coffee flavors dominate. There is a strong alcohol presence that matches 9% on the label.

Mouth-feel: Thick, but with an extremely smooth and creamy body. The beer was aged over 3 years, which probably made it more smooth.

This is a good Imperial Stout, and it has a unique mix of flavors that adds a nice complexity to the beer. It is very smooth and enjoyable to drink. I would buy this again.

Black, Chewy, Warming, Soot

Big, strong, and dark. More of subtle or middle of the road type Imperial Stout that hits all the right marks. More of charcoal-like burnt character with only faint suggestions of chocolate and coffee. Some sweetness and dark fruit in the middle meets a push of warming alcohol in the finish. For a malt forward Impy Stout it ends up being balanced and a pretty good sip.

22 oz bottle, "Born on Date 012414" so January 12, 2014? so 1.5 years old, although bought off the shelf a few months ago

pours black, with thick off white head. good head retention. aroma is mostly smoke, char, roast, toasted marshmallow. taste isn't quite as dry as expected. well balanced with a touch of bitter cocoa flavor, but definitely very roasty. thicker body, full mouthfeel, lower carbonation.

22oz bottle from Steve000 (thanks!). Bottled 11/27/13. Served in a goblet.

Pours a dark coffee brown, close to black. The finger and a half pale tan head shrinks down to a fine layer accross the surface and a decent sized ring that leaves little chunks of lace.

Smells of chocolate, mild roast and burnt caramel.

Chocolate malts seem to be the star here. Cocoa, a bit of coffee, roasted malt, burnt sugar, mild earthy bitterness and just a hint of alcohol.

Soft, creamy, medium full body with light carbonation. Bitter notes pick up in the finish with dark cocoa, coffee and a stronger dose of the earthy, herbal astringency.

Never heard of Brewmasters Brewing but this is a pretty solid stout. I'm sure the age has a good bit to do with the smooth feel, which was a highlight for me.

Very drinkable imperial stout. Has heft, but not too heavy or harsh. Nice roasted flavors, some cocoa and chocolate notes, only a touch of char. Balanced, enjoyable brew.

Poured from 22 oz bomber into tall tulip glass - born on date 01-24-14. Typically black as imperial stout should be with about a half finger brown head that slowly dissipates leaving a slight ring and a little bit of lacing. Aroma is sweet with molasses, dark dried fruit, licorice and roasted malt. Taste is exactly as the smell would imply with loads of molasses, dried fruit, some notes of cocoa, espresso, and licorice, followed by a very slight bit of bitterness. Mouth is really nice...dense, but not thick or cloying, but could stand to be more carbonated. Overall, nicely done Imperial Stout.

Bottled July 2014.

A- Pouring from the bomber brings a pitch black brew to my pint glass with a several finger creamy tan head. Good head retention; it falls to a large ring and pillow. Sheets and rings of lace after each sip.

S- Most of whats going on here is from the dark roasted grains. Charred barley, burnt toast, baking chocolate and deep caramel. Dark fruits on the back end.

T- Things flip flop for my palate at thus stage. The dark fruits rise to the occassion with big notes of fig, raisin, cherry cordials and even plum. Malts take a step behind that with cocoa powder, caramelized sugar, ash, slight burnt and stale caramel notes. Something funky throughout like slight metallic and tart fruits, really hurts overall.

MF- Medium bodied for the style with a consistency that is foamy and creamy as the carbonation comes in at a fairly high level. Tart bitter metal in the finish.

Seems slightly infected too me. Not a gusher or overcarbonated but a twang of metallic and tart fruit makes the flavor suffer. Sort of a shame and its listed as retired now.

Bought a 22oz bomber of this yesterday (at The Beer Store, Nashua) for $7.00. Born on date is 07/15/14. Time to indulge...

Poured a bit into a small tulip.... Completely opaque; a deep, dark dense black, like oil. Head started at 1/2" of creamy mocha foam, but it has ebbed to a solid, fine layer covering the crude. Lacing is decent, with some nice stick on the sides. The aroma is luscious! Has lots of dark, rich malts, with some coffee, dark choco and dark fruit. Body is a bit more than medium, and it feels fairly smooth, overall, on the tongue.

Flavor has some sweetness, though not nearly as much as intimated by the aroma. I get a bit of caramel, some roasty coffee, and a bit of espresso. It gets a touch bitter, with flavors like cocoa nibs and dark chocolate. Besides all that, it has some touches of dark fruit, like currants, figs and raisin, plus a dash of licorice. The finish is a tad dry, with some floral hopping making a cameo. Overall, not bad... I was really excited by the appearance and aroma, but the flavor was much more down to earth.... Prosit!!
