A dark brown, clear beer showing good retention and lace. Aromas are of caramel malts and brown sugar.

Taste is very smooth and malty - low hop presence; very easy drinking. This finish is somewhat sweet. Simple but expertly fashioned English brown.

Thanks to Patio for the use of his mug!

Served slightly chilled (just right for the style) in a pint glass at the brewpub.

Medium residue brown color with good clarity. Thin white head settles quickly.

Aroma has elements of toasted malt, caramel, and rye bread.

Flavor is wonderfully balanced and drinkable. Same sort of character as the aroma alluded to. Totally mellow and spot on for an English brown ale.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and perfectly (low) carbonated.

Overall a really nice American version of a British classsic. Just with it was on cask!

I was really disappointed in this beer, mainly because I love brown ales and expect them all to at least have some redeeming quality. For Bull & Bush's offering, the only good quality was that it went down easily. The color was right, but the flavor was not so much. If they had called it just an ale, I think it would've gotten higher marks.

I'm wondering if the setting may have had an effect on this, as all of the other reviews rave from the tap rather than from a growler, so hopefully I can have a proper pint and give it better marks.

a very standard brown ale. pours thin gingerbready color with a small white head. smells a little smokey and sweet. taste is very malt driven, mild sweetness, good drinkability. i am a fan of brown ales and this one was just average for me, the taste was great but i thought the mouthfeel was a bit thin, and just like the stout it was missing a nice frothy head. not their best work in my opinion

I had this one on tap the other night at the brewery. Poured a nice dark reddish brown color with a decent light brown head. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa and roasted nuts. On the palate, this one was medium bodied and very good, with flavors of milk chocolate, cocoa powder and roasted nuts.

On tap at the Fallen Rock. Mostly caramel, chocolate malt that bulks up mouthfeel until finish. A slightly sweet brown, a Newcastle substitute. Creamy, though a little astringent finish. English brown however dead on style.Malty aroma.Understated carbonation, slightly warm the way it should be.

Pours a medium brown with a nice tan head. Nose has roasted malts, chocolate, nuts and toffee. Taste has bready malts with again a decent roasted malt presence. Medium body is nicely carbonated and drinks well. Good English brown ale from Bull and Bush.

Pours a deep, almost opaque, almost sable brown with a fine-bubbled tan head. Aroma is rich and smoky with strong coffee overtone and spicy hints. Malty flavor is well-rounded with a considerable burnt coffee component and hints of chocolate and hops. The sweetness nicely balances the hoppy bitterness. Texture is smooth, rich and pleasing.

While the B&B is better known for their more off the wall experiments and their bigger brews, this is a great example of a brown ale. This is pretty much my go-to beer here.
Arrives a medium to dark brown with a standard 1/4" head on the top. It's not from a cask or nitro, but it has a thickness about it that won't make you miss that.
Smells like nuts, mild cocoa, and a little bit of English-style bittering hops. Not quite as potent as some, but still solid.
The taste is an excellent balance of maltiness and a clean slightly bitter finish from the hops. Spot on for style. It's like a mild Nutella-like flavor.
Texture is thick enough to emulate a cask delivery and the temperature usually isn't too cold either. Nice.
Nothing mind blowing, but just a good solid drinkable brown ale. Pairs well with a sandwich, fish, or even their hearty weekend brunch.

This had a ruby colored body and a sweet malty aroma but with more malt than sweetness. It almost reminded me of cinnamon raisin bread. There was more bitterness than expected in the flavor but still a good malt profile with some caramel notes and a medium body. This was an average brown ale.

Had this on tap on Falling Rock in Denver, nicely recommended by the bartender (too bad I forgot his name).
Dark brew with a reddish hue, a small tan head that is very thick, creamy and sticky.
A hoppier smell than expected for a brown ale, but it has some nice balancing malts as well.
This is medium-bodied, but very creamy, and that small head is very creamy as well.
Taste is again hoppier than the average brown ale, but it is very well balanced and pleasing.
A very good, impressive brown ale that I hope to find in bottles, and hope it is as good in a bottle as it is on tap.

Draught. Wonderful roasted malt and chocolate aroma, with hints of fudge and fruits. Flavor is rich, malt accented, and a bit unorthodox for a Brown ale, considering it had significant roast and burnt malt flavors. Very rich in body as well. Bull & Bush has impressed me thusfar.
