I liked this place a lot. It was kind of a dive, but the beer selection was pretty nice. I was happy to see the Schlafly Pumpkin ale on tap, and it was almost $2 cheaper than at the Schlafly Tap room downtown. A long and very narrow establishment, the bar runs along the right side wall. There were pool tables and dart boards towards the back of the place. There were about 4 or 5 nice tv's and all were tuned to the MLB channel (The Cards were playing a day game). The bartender was nice enough and seemed to know his stuff. They had some New Belgium seasonals on draft and several other local beers. I was much happier here than at the Schlafly tap room. I was hoping to get back here on my visit but was only able to make one visit. I would certainly return if in the downtown area.

One of my top 5 places to grab a craft beer in St. Louis now! There is a ton of history with this place though (and not in a positive way). Back last year when smoking in bars was legal, this place was more dive than any bar you would find by Washington Avenue or even Downtown St. Louis. A cloud was present from even looking in from the street. Well, since many of my friends have currently relocated down here by Wash Ave, I come here regularly! You should come here as well.
A very mixed crowd is always around but never takes away from the vibe. Good music, fun bartenders, and foozball/shuffleboard is present. There always seems to be late night parties and alot of times weddings that come here on the weekends before/after/during their reception so you know its a fun place!
All beers poured into appropriate glassware, always clean counters (which is surprising for this type of bar), and organized beer menus that offer plenty more thats listed!
It took me quite a few times coming here to get used to the staff. Never take them seriously! Also, don't take anything personally. If you do, your in trouble. However, they will hook you up for what you are looking for. Great guys with always a joke behind that straight face. Otherwise, talk to STLwill who is always hanging out, drinking some sort of limited sour that he has smuggled in.
Their selection is beyond impressive! They always have a few Cantillons that rotate, my favorite lately Fantome, and plenty of other sours. They also have limited Founders and others that make your jaw drop while looking at the beer menu. Good brews on-tap (3 rotating Schlaflys, Monks Cafe, and many other craft brews) that are all worth enjoying any day of the week.
I give this place an A+ for their hard work into turning into more of a Beer Bar instead of what they used to be. We don't have to talk about their past though, just a great future place to grab a brew!

Tucked away in the ever so trendy Washington street district is Hair of the Dog. I would imagine most simply skip over as they strut on by as this area is known for trendy clubs and swanky bars. Hair of the Dog looks like your average "dive bar" which usually offer cheap macros. I knew there was a stash of Cantillon here served on site, a great list with great prices. tucked away in a red bull mini fridge was Rose De Gambrinus, Classic Gueuze, Tilquin Gueuze, Hanssens Gueuze, Drie Fonteinen Kriek, i mean, this is amazing! On tap was a few typical such as Newcastle, Guinness, but with Goose Island, a few new Belgium, and 3 local Schlafly on tap at all time. a great bottle list with plenty of craft stouts, belgians, etc... oddly enough, most of the crowd was drinking miller and bud but one guy stopped by and said we should try the cuvee de ranke. not someone i would EVER think would be into this. all patrons were cool and friendly, great staff, also friendly. Proper glassware was used. I mentioned no food but they serve TJ's brand pizzas. Not exactly something that is mind expanding, but it is something. They allow food to come in as well.
Overall, this is a great little spot stacked with great beer options.
