12oz bottle. Poured out a clear, brown color with small, tan head of foam. It smelled of roasted malt, coffee and subtle pine notes. Good roasty flavor with a nice bitter bite.

Very big head and very precisely brown in color. Pretty much completely opaque. Almost like a stout. nice! very nutty aroma and a little bit chocolaty also. nice smell altogether. very nutty flavor with a pronounced bitterness up front. Strong cocoa on the back end. thick malty body dominates. very nice! This is well done in my book! thick creamy mouthfeel. medium finish. bitterness dissipates really quickly and is almost completely absent in the finish. a very strong beer from a local Iowa brewery. I've had others by keg creek that top this, but this is a great beer overall!

Dark, nutty aroma. Flavors of roasted grains with mild bitterness; cocoa puffs. Medium body; mild sweetness with a slightly dry edge.
A solid brown ale...

It's brown alright. Small finger of head.
Aroma of both dusty pale malts and some medium malts. Light cocoa.
Flavor is mostly grassy with some cocoa powder here and there. An obtrusive bitterness.
Feel is crisp and dry, clean finish.
Overall, it seems they skirted by just trying to meet spec for Brown Ale. It's not good at all. I can't recommend it.

Sampled last night on 6/4/15. Comes in a single 500ml (16.9 ounce) bottle brewed right across the river due east in Glenwood, Iowa by the Keg Creek Brewery, their "BREAKDOWN BROWN" contains 5.6% alcohol. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a .5L "HB"handled-glass mug.
Brew pours a deep reddish-mahogany in color with about a half-finger foamy beige head that settles to almost nothing quickly. Some light spotty lacing is seen when sipped but not much. The aroma for the most part is of roasted malts. Pretty much is said for the taste also with a hint of chocolate malts and yeast. Does have a slightly harsh finish that stuck around more than I liked. Medium-bodied with lower carbonation. Overall it was OK. This brewery makes some other tasty brews also!

A: Dark, dark brown with a light brown, thick and foamy head; lacing is average
S: Burnt brown sugar, sweet chocolate malts; this smells very bready and nice though perhaps a bit too sweet--we'll see
T: Roasty chocolatey malts up front; at first taste this is awesome but I wish some bitterness could balance out the sweetness because as it finishes it gets rather cloying
F: Pretty thick and creamy
O: This is a decent little brown ale that could be awesome if the brown sugar, caramel, and sweet bready malts were balanced a bit better

Of the year-rounds this was my favorite that I tasted. The nose was a dead give-a-way that this was no ordinary Brown Ale. The nose had a nice little but noticeable hop note that I wasn't expecting. It really balanced out the guts of the beer: the dark malty, caramel, chocolate malts that I tasted. Very well balanced. 5 Stars.
