Pours a golden honey amber color with a short dense white head that settled into a light ring.

The aroma is of a bready malt with honey sweetness. It is a nice deep malt aroma but there really isn't much of a hop aroma, which is disappointing especially for the style.

The taste is of a sweet honey malt, nice and bready; crazy smooth. Little bit of a fruity sweetness. The hops are very subtle, a bit grassy and dry. Some resin in the finish. Tastes more like an APA to me. The good thing is that the ABV is nowhere to be found.

The feel is moderate to well bodied with soft carbonation. This beer is very smooth and has a nice balance but it does finishes with a dry, asprin like bitterness but not too strong. Again, ABV well hidden. Drinks great.

I must say the hops faded extremely quick with this beer. I had a sample before purchasing the growler and the hops were stronger. Currently, the hop profile seems to just balance the malt. From what I remember from my original sample, the hops were quite asprin like.

On-tap at Idle Hands, New York, NY

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellowish amber in color. It poured with a thin white head that died down, leaving a large patch of bubbles covering the surface and a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of smoked malts are present in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste has light to moderate flavors of smoked malts along with a light to moderate amount of bitterness along with hints of pine resin hops. Hints of alcohol are noticeable in the finish.
M: It feels a bit more than medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation with bits of warming from the alcohol.
O: This beer tastes like a hybrid between a rauchbier and an IPA, but more like a rauchbier. It's interesting and different but isn't that easy to drink and needs to be sipped slowly.

On draft at The Black Sheep, Mineola, NY.

Poured a medium copper hue with one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing b

The smell featured a smooth balmy caramel malt decorated with a touch of pine.

The taste was dominated by the rich sweet and earthy malts, which yielded ever so slightly to allow a utilitarian hop to be detected.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style.

Overall a fine malt driven DIPA that hid it's ABV very well.

picked up a 16oz fill locally a few hours ago. enjoyed from my blue point snifter (werd to the locals!).

a - through the growler the beer had an amber brownish orange tint and was semi-transparent. a hard pour yielded the same deep amber elixir with a bit more than a finger's worth of off white ipa-ish head with a concave appearance with some lacing along the edges.

s - very smokey and peat. i was warned that this was a smoked out ipa (and i dig rauch) but very odd for an iipa. not really much else coming through other than the rauch in the nose at first. once i started drinking the beer a bit more, i got over the smokiness and a barleywine-like iipa showed its face, but in the world of iipa's that make you mess your pants from the amazing smell, this one certainly falls deep into average at best.

t - again, big rauch, but the ipa is definitely showing its colors underneath. the hops clash somewhat with the smokiness and the bitter finish reminds you it is in the ipa family at first. as i sip it and my palette adjusts to the smoke, a decent flavored iipa comes out. definitely a strong malt presence and more resembles a well balanced american barley than an iipa.

m/o - overall, i'm glad i only have 16oz of this. it is nice to see an experiment like this, but not sure that this really speaks to me. at first it was a bit of a mess, but as my palette adjusted to the odd combo of smokiness and iipa i did finad a fairly decent malt heavy iipa. it seems like there is a nice hop bouquet in there, but the smokiness seems to mute it out on all but the finish. evenly carbonated and drinkable, but the kind o fbeer that you get a pint of and that takes a while to get through. not bad by any means, but not something i'll seek out again. would love to try this without the smoked malts as there seems to be some real promise beneath the smokiness. my sample is relatively fresh, i imagine that this one falls apart the older it gets.

A - Hazy dark apricot. Nice, fine white head. Low retention and lace.

S - Super sweet malt with peach-like fruit. Very little hop.

T - Sweet malts with Juicy Fruit gum, peach and pineapple. Prickly booze ebbs and weaves through the profile. Touch of smoke on the backend. The individual flavors sound good on paper, but for some reason they just didn't come together for me. Almost no hop bitterness.

M - Way too thick, almost syrupy. Low carbonation.

O - Tastes under fermented. The mouthfeel is too dense for the profile, and the sweetness felt overpowering without a counterbalance of bright carbonation or bittering hops.

A- the appearance is a copper orange with a white head Taft dissipates basically to nothing.

S- juicy orange and tropical fruit mixed with a burnt oak like whiskey aroma, alcohol heat and faint sweetness.

T- mildly hoppy and very smokey for a dipa. The orange and smoke work to make an orange juice and whiskey like combo, with tons of alcohol burn and a syrupy sweet finish.

O- this beer is not quite hoppy enough for me as an IPA and came off more as a boozy barley wine with a pleasant smoke character and far too much sweetness.
